Hello fellow! Meet Laura Jääskeläinen and Mervi Salminen, the dynamic duo behind FellowED. 👋 Together, they want to offer teachers the tools to create engagement, fellowship, and a positive learning environment in the classroom through something they call “Mini-methods”. They want to reach teachers and schools worldwide. 🚀

The FellowED team is excited to learn from the other participants of the Incubator, and hopefully be able to share some tips of their own as well. They are also looking forward to exploring the possibilities of co-creation in order to develop a more impactful solution. 🤝🔨

Did you see who won the prize for The Best Learning Solution from Finland in 2023? 🏆

This year’s competition was themed “World at play – Games and Gamification as Keys to a Sustainable Future.” by the organizers Suomen eOppimiskeskus ry - The Association of Finnish eLearning Center. The winning prize went to two solutions, Learning life – Mystery 24/7 and MarISOT – both university driven projects. 💡

The best news, however, were that Mathness – an EdTech Incubator Helsinki alumni company run by Jussi Koivisto – won the honorable mention for being the audience’s favorite! Congratulations! 🤩 The solution received 42 % of the audience votes. 🚀

Today, some of the Incubator teams gathered for afternoon coffee and reflections on their latest workshops. As a bonus, a potluck was organized, where the teams could bring a snack that they particularly like or have an attachment to. 🌯🍩🍇 The different backgrounds and cultures of the entrepreneurs made for some interesting flavors and fantastic stories behind them! 🤩

To have such a diverse community at The Hub is invaluable and there’s always someone who can help you out with contacts, useful knowledge, or different competences. 🚀

So, what is Helsinki Education Week? 👀

To summarize it, the week brings together learners and education professionals for local events throughout Helsinki. The theme for this year is wellbeing that supports learning, and during the Helsinki Education Week, anyone interested in the future of teaching and learning – from schools to kindergartens, from teachers to pupils, and from parents and guardians to companies – can either organize or participate in interesting events. 🙌

We are open throughout the summer with the following two exceptions:

👉 Tomorrow, Friday 23.6., we are closed due to midsummer.

👉 The first week of July (3-7.7.) we are closed due to holidays.


Please also note that the Aalto Töölö building will move to summer opening hours starting on June 26th. This means the doors to the building will be open from 8-15:30 on weekdays.

Yesterday, we learned a lot and gained plenty of insights on how the EdTech markets in Latin America work. Did you know that the different countries and regions speak different versions of Spanish? Presenting the Market Entry to Latin America -experts: Joni AlWindi 🌎

Joni AlWindi is an award-winning, Swedish and Finnish Education Entrepreneur, Economist and EdTech Pioneer and Consultant, who's "failed successfully" since 2008. 🏆

He started his career pioneering an Estonian edtech solution in Colombia, where he also worked as English teacher in 2003-2004, education consultant in 2005 and education economics researcher since 2007, until focusing on education entrepreneurship with research-based and scalable technology since 2008. He graduated from Stockholm School of Economics and St Gallen University with a double Masters in International Economics and International Management, and is based in Finland since 2011. 👨‍🎓

On a personal level, he's a family man first, enjoys sports, traveling, podcasting, and writing, while slowly finishing his book ”5 Years in Colombia - How I Re-educated Myself on the Streets of Laughter. 📖
