NEMO still needs your support to make sure that the results from its follow-up survey on museums and #Covid19 are evenly balanced and that the findings are relevant to policy makers. Please take the survey and share it with your museum contacts. The survey closes on Sunday 29 November 2020.

🇨🇾🇨🇿🇩🇰🇫🇷🇭🇺🇮🇪🇱🇻🇲🇹🇳🇱🇵🇱🇸🇰
We urge museums in Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, France, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland and Slovakia to contribute to NEMO's follow-up survey on the impact of #Covid19.
The survey will provide us with important insights into the new needs of the sector. The results will help us determine how NEMO can support museums and which policies and measures we should put forward at European level. Museums located in other countries are of course also welcome to submit their answers.

⏰📅The deadline is extended until 29 November.

Directorate of Archaeological Museums, Exhibitions and Educational Programmes (DAMEEP)

The Directorate of Archaeological Museums, Exhibitions and Educational Programmes (DAMEEP) of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports is responsible for overseeing and coordinating activities in all archaeological museums which constitute the largest museum category with over 200 museums across the country. Issues related to the establishment and operation of archaeological museums, ranging from their accreditation to the safekeeping and management of their collections, the coordination of their communication policy through exhibitions, learning activities and public programmes and the promotion of European and international cooperation, including through temporary exhibitions and the participation in networks (e.g. NEMO Network of European Museum Organisations) and projects, are key aspects of our work.

https://www.culture.gov.gr/en

DAMEEP and MOI
The aim of MOI, i.e. to offer European museums a voluntary online tool to help them evaluate and rethink their impact in society, is totally in line with DAMEEP’s goal to support museums reinforce their social role which clearly goes beyond the organization of exhibitions and educational programmes. The MOI evaluation framework is expected to provide Greek archaeological museums with a valuable resource for their self-assessment as organisations operating for and with diverse communities, contributing to their wellbeing, and shaping their future strategic priorities and services to increase their value for society.

⭐️⭐️⭐️Get to know the organizations behind MOI!⭐️⭐️⭐️

When you have a strategy, you will have impact: increasing the effectiveness of museums by promoting their strategic development through instruments of self-evaluation is the core idea of MOI!, and also extremely relevant to us at Institut für Museumsforschung, the Institute for Museum Research of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin – Preußischer Kulturbesitz.
We are a nationwide research institution located in Berlin, focussing primarily on aspects of German and international museum life that are relevant beyond individual collections.
To this end, we engage in research together with museums. The Institute initiates research projects together with museums and develops formats for interdisciplinary research in collections and objects. We have a special expertise in the areas of digitisation, documentation and long-term archiving. We also survey the annual overall statistics on museums in Germany, have an eye on the history of museums and issue several publication series.

The Institut für Museumsforschung is delighted to be part of this special project MOI Museums of Impact. As a nationally active research institution we keep an eye on more than 6.700 museums, and it is particularly important to us, that small to medium-sized institutions too are given the opportunity to improve their effectiveness and thus their visibility through self-evaluation. We are confident that the MOI! framework will provide a perfect tool for museums of all sizes and in different developmental stages to take matters into their own hands - towards strengthening the relations between museums and their communities.

📌 BAM! Strategie Culturali is an Italian team of professionals that works alongside cultural institutions and projects to build strategic processes. Its ultimate goal is to facilitate cultural access and ensure cultural engagement for an increasingly broad and diverse audience.

📌 BAM! & MOI
BAM! is looking forward to deepen the topic of evaluation for museum organizations, especially to find ways to adapt it to the Italian context, where the public sector has been working on the creation of the national museum system over the last two years.
Thanks to MOI BAM! will have the opportunity to bring evaluation tools as a strategic development resource to the Italian museum sector, tackling one of the most felt issues of these times: the social impact of museum organizations.

Safnaráð / The Museum Council of Iceland is an administrative committee for the Icelandic Ministry of Education, Science and Culture. The council deals with various tasks regarding cultural, art, and natural history museums in accordance with the Icelandic Museum Act.

The Icelandic Museum Fund, to which accredited museums can apply, is managed by the council. In 2020 the fund has allocated 1.131.098 € in support for 124 projects.

The Museum Council assesses applications from museums that seek accreditation. The council also supervises and monitors the accredited museums’ activities, both operationally and professionally. As of now, there are 46 accredited museums in Iceland, visited by 1.150.000 guests in 2018. The museum landscape in Iceland is diverse; there are 10 art museums, 4 natural history museums, 27 history museums and 4 museums which are interdisciplinary. Additionally, there are 5 governmentally owned museums, including 3 central museums. The council, in collaboration with the central museums, is responsible for writing the strategic direction regarding the work of museums.

How Museums of Impact will benefit The Museum Council of Iceland: We believe that the framework will benefit the council as well as museums in Iceland. Concerning the council, the framework has the potential on supporting its work on the museum accreditation process and also in supervising museum. Furthermore, it will be of help in the strategic planning of museum activities. For the museums themselves, the framework could help them streamline their operation; support their policy formulation and supervise their approach to their target groups.

Fun fact: 9.814.467 artifacts are in the collection of those 46 accredited museums.

MOI in a nutshell

MOI! Museums of Impact is a European cooperation project co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme. The project aims to develop a self-evaluation model for European museums. The model helps museums to critically evaluate their operations, and to develop their capacity to meet the demands of a changing, more diverse, increasingly digital and ageing society.

The framework will be developed in a series of collaborative cooperation workshops. Throughout the process, the framework will be tested at a number of pilot museums and to allow stakeholders’ knowledge and needs to feed into the developing model. At regular Stakeholders Forums, developers and museums will meet for open dialogues. The final version of the framework will be published in seven languages together with guidance and promotional material. The framework will be openly accessible for all.

The following 11 organisations are collaborating to develop the framework: Finnish Heritage Agency, FI; BAM! Strategie Culturali, IT; Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports, EL; Deutscher Museumsbund/NEMO Network of Museum Organisations, DE; Museum of Cycladic Art, EL; Estonian National Museum/Eesti Rahva Muuseum, EE; Finnish Museums Association, FI; European Museum Academy, NL; Museum Council of Iceland, IS; Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz SPK, DE; and MUSIS Steirischer Museumsverband, AT.

The project has begun in December 2019 and will last until March 2022.
