🌻 Today, our deputy Head of Mission joined the celebration of the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence Day, in Helsinki.

The ceremony at Senate Square brought together friends and supporters of Ukraine for speeches, including remarks by Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, as well as beautiful performances by a Ukrainian dance group and choir.

The celebration continued with a march through Helsinki, filling the streets with flags and sunflowers.

On Ukraine’s Independence Day, we reaffirm our support for the Ukrainian people and their right to live in freedom, sovereignty and peace 🇺🇦

The HC’s were briefing the Embassy team about developments in their respective regions. The Embassy team was providing updates on the current political and economic landscape, the priorities of the Embassy and an overview of past and future activities.

We invited Maarten ten Wolde, Deputy Director Hybrid Influence at The European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats, as a speaker. Maarten presented an overview of hybrid threats, the work of the center and their objectives.

🤝 It was an inspiring day filled with engaging discussions and ideas for upcoming events.

🚒 Our embassy team learned more about fire safety and was trained to provide first response.

Helsingin kaupungin pelastuslaitos: thank you for the efficient and educational training!

It was also interesting to learn that certain important tools for the fire brigade come from Dutch company Holmatro and that specific operational guidelines from Brandweer Nederland are being used.

Dear Finland 🇫🇮

As a brand new family of 3, we arrived 3 years ago in Helsinki to start my new job at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Finland, focussing on hybrid threats, economic security, civil resiliency, and cyber security.

During the past 3 years I have had the pleasure to experience life in Finland. To get to know the Finnish sisu, sauna culture, ​​snowy winters, summers with endless daylight, the cool & collected attitude, your love for coffee, your talent for organising and strict time-management, the Fazer Easter eggs, ​​the beautiful nature and ​above all, your kindness and genuine interest in the community around you.

Hence, it’s with a heavy heart that we’re leaving Finland, now, as a family of 4. We’re off to a new adventure in Brussels and I hope that this is not a final goodbye but just a ‘see you another time’.

Thanks to my family, my colleagues, all the lovely people at daycare, and to all of you who I had the pleasure to get to know over the past years and made our time here so special.

Yesterday, two of our Embassy colleagues attended the impressive Hamina Tattoo military music festival, where the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy (Marinierskapel der Koninklijke Marine) participated with a wonderful performance.

This year’s theme, The Baltic Sea, highlights what connects the countries around their shared sea: culture, security and environmental responsibility.

A wonderful evening of music, dances and marches and of international cooperation, with a strong Dutch contribution, among other partners 🇳🇱🇫🇮🇨🇦🇸🇪🇨🇭

🥁 The Marine band of the Royal Netherlands Navy, Marinierskapel der Koninklijke Marine, will perform at Hamina Tattoo.

Hamina Tattoo is Finland’s leading international military music event, gathering military musicians, cultural representatives, diplomatic guests and audiences from around the world.

📍 The Marine band of the Royal Netherlands Navy will perform at the Hamina Tattoo VIP March Show on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at 7:00 PM at the Hamina Bastion.

The festival is taking place in Hamina, Finland, from 27 July to 1 August 2026.
