🌟 𝙑𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙆𝙪𝙤𝙥𝙞𝙤 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙉𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙝 𝙎𝙖𝙫𝙤 𝙧𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙤𝙣

Ambassador Simon Van der Burg took the train to Kuopio to explore and learn what Kuopio and the North Savo region have to offer. The excellent program was organized by the Honorary Consul of the Netherlands, Ulla Pekkarinen. At the beautiful city hall, Head of the City Council Aleksi Eskelinen, gave an overview of the economic opportunities of the vibrant university city with a population of approximately 125,000. The Kuopio region is one of Finland’s most dynamic growth centres.

⏺️ 𝑹𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒅𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔
Savilahti Sports and Events Centre Luola, is not only an underground sport centre for around 2500 people. The centre will also ensure security of the district by providing a shared shelter for nearly 7000 people. In September, a large security exercise will take place in Luola. This fits the vision of the city and the Kuopio region Chamber of Commerce of being the centre of excellence for comprehensive security in Finland.

⏺️ 𝑬𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑
Business Center Pohjois-Savo supports (young) entrepreneurs and promotes cooperation and competitiveness in Eastern Finland working closely together with experts from Savonia University of Applied Sciences, Itä-Suomen yliopisto - University of Eastern Finland (UEF), Savo Vocational College, the cities of Iisalmi and Kuopio, and Varkaus Navitas Kehitys Oy.

Ponsse Oyj is one of the world’s leading forest machine manufacturers and an important economic player in Vieremä. The region is known for machine industry and strong wood industry. Impressive to see how the company is innovating and growing also after the border with Russia has been closed. Picture: feeling somewhat small in front of this giant machine, together with Katja Paananen, Jukka Kytömäki and Tommi Väänänen.

A visit to Orthodox Church Museum of Finland / Suomen ortodoksinen kirkkomuseo RIISA. The collections are based on items from the Orthodox parishes of Karelia and Petsamo and the monasteries of Valamo, Konevitsa and Petsamo that came to Finland through the evacuations that took place during the wars of 1939-1944. Thank you for the guided tour Katariina Husso.

🥅 A 2nd place for Team Powerchair Hockey NL at the IPCH - International Powerchair Hockey World Championships 2026 in 🇫🇮! 🥈

The team was fighting until the end, but it was not enough to beat Switzerland in the final. We are very proud of the Dutch team, being the 2nd best in the world is a fantastic achievement. Congratulations with the silver medal! 👏

Deputy Ambassador Lieske de Krijger was present at Pajulahti Sports Institute in Nastola, experiencing the wonderful atmosphere in the venue. It was also a true pleasure to meet the team and staff afterwards and learn more about the developments in Powerchair Hockey in the Netherlands.

We wish the team safe travels back to the Netherlands!

🥅 At the moment the IPCH - International Powerchair Hockey World Championships 2026 are taking place in Pajulahti Sports Institute in Finland.

Team Powerchair Hockey NL is doing great so far! 👏🏼🎊

🔸 Yesterday Ilona from the Embassy went to watch the game between the Netherlands and Canada live. Team NL won with big numbers! 👏🏼 It was an honour to meet the team and to celebrate the win in the dressing room afterwards including some singing! 🎼🎼🎼

🔸 The team has now won the group stage and will play the half final tomorrow (Saturday) at 16.30 against Italy.

🔸 The tournament takes place at the Pajulahti Sports Institute, Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Nastola.

🔸 All matches are open to the public and free of charge. The matches are also live streamed online.

🔄 𝑬𝒙𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆 𝒃𝒆𝒕𝒘𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝑭𝒊𝒏𝒏𝒊𝒔𝒉 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑫𝒖𝒕𝒄𝒉 𝒗𝒐𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝒄𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒈𝒆.

We received a group of Dutch and Finnish students at the embassy. During a one-hour session we told them about the work of an embassy and the (bilateral) relations between Finland and the Netherlands. We talked about cultural differences and famous Finns, like Jari Litmanen and Klaus Mäkelä.

The students study to become car mechanics and this visit is part of the exchange program between Scalda vocational college in Vlissingen and Stadin AO, the Helsinki vocational college. In a few weeks’ time the Finnish students will travel to the Netherlands.

We were glad to contribute to this exchange program by sharing information and providing an insight in topics we are dealing with. We hope to have inspired the youngsters, and we look forward to further cooperation between Finland and the Netherlands.
