It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that the Department of Health and Social Services announces the passing of one of our longest-serving and most dedicated staff members, Mrs. Senolynn Donre Amusten, who peacefully passed away today, June 7, 2026.

For more than 20 years, Mrs. Donre Amusten faithfully served the people of Pohnpei through the Dental Division, touching countless lives with her kindness, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to public service. Her dedication to improving the health and well-being of our communities will never be forgotten.

On behalf of the Department of Health and Social Services, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mrs. Donre for her years of faithful service and profound contributions to our people. We also extend our deepest condolences and sincere sympathies to her family, relatives, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.

Mrs. Donre leaves behind a legacy of service, compassion, and commitment that will continue to inspire us all.

May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may God grant comfort and strength to all who mourn her passing.

Today, I would like to humbly remind our people about the importance of taking care of our health. Health must always be a priority above anything else, because without good health, it becomes difficult to care for our families, fulfill our responsibilities, and enjoy the blessings of life.

Lately, we have witnessed many deaths within our communities. Some of these losses were unavoidable, but sadly, some could have been prevented if medical attention and health check-ups were sought earlier. Too often, illnesses are discovered at a very late stage when treatment becomes more difficult.

Personally, I have also lost relatives and friends recently, and my heart truly aches for them and their families. These painful experiences remind us that life is precious and that we should never take our health for granted.

I encourage everyone , young and old , to please make time for regular medical check-ups, screenings, and follow-up care. Do not wait until the pain becomes unbearable or until it is too late. Early detection saves lives.

Please also encourage your loved ones, parents, grandparents, spouses, children, and friends to seek medical care when needed. Let us work together as one community to build a healthier and stronger Pohnpei.

On behalf of the Department of Health and Social Services, I extend my prayers and condolences to all families who have recently lost their loved ones. May God continue to comfort and strengthen you during these difficult times.

Pohnpei State Hospital extends its deepest gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Anna, Anesthesiologist from Genesis Hospital, for stepping forward and providing her invaluable support during a critical time when our anesthesiologist was unable to work due to health reasons. Your willingness to serve and assist reflects the true spirit of compassion, professionalism, and dedication to patient care.

We also convey our sincere appreciation to Genesis Hospital Management, especially Dr. Merlynn Abello, for your generosity, understanding, and unwavering support extended to the people of Pohnpei. With utmost respect and sincere gratitude, Pohnpei State Hospital extends our heartfelt appreciation to His Majesty Wasa Lapalap Sahngoro, the King of U Municipality, for the generous donation of one whole pig to our hospital.

This rare act of kindness and generosity from His Royal Highness reflects the true spirit of compassion, leadership, and care for the people of Pohnpei. The donated pig will be prepared and shared with our patients as a gesture of comfort and support during their time at the hospital.

We are deeply humbled by this noble contribution and the continued love shown by the King and the good people of U Municipality toward our patients and healthcare workers.

May the Good Lord continue to bless His Majesty Wasa Lapalap Sahngoro, the traditional leadership of U, and all the people of U Municipality with peace, wisdom, good health, and abundant blessings.

The Department of Health and Social Services and the staff of Pohnpei State Hospital would like to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Bale Kurabui for his extraordinary commitment and compassion in responding to an urgent medevac request from Nukuoro Island.

Last week, Pohnpei State Hospital received an emergency medevac request from Nukuoro. Unfortunately, due to the absence of ships in Pohnpei waters at the time, we were unable to respond immediately. Understanding the urgency of the situation, Dr. Bale Kurabui, who is currently working for FSM Department of Health Services under the supervision of the Director of Chuuk State Health Services, voluntarily boarded the ship and traveled to Nukuoro to assist the patient.

With the support and approval of Dr. Bosco and the leadership FSM Health Services, Dr. Bale successfully reached Nukuoro and safely escorted the patient all the way to Pohnpei State Hospital.
The patient has arrived safely and is now receiving the treatment and care needed.

This act of sacrifice, teamwork, and compassion truly reflects the spirit of healthcare service in Micronesia — where we work together beyond borders for the wellbeing of our people.
