🌟 A Warm Pohnpeian Welcome to Our New Pediatrician! 👶🩺

Pohnpei State Department of Health and Social Services is proud and excited to welcome Dr. Andree Oweno Zamunu to our growing team of healthcare professionals.

Dr. Zamunu brings more than 12 years of pediatric experience, having served at East Sepik Province Hospital in Papua New Guinea, where he provided care to a population of over 500,000 people. His wealth of knowledge, clinical expertise, and commitment to children's health will be a tremendous asset to Pohnpei State.

Prior to joining our team, Dr. Zamunu also served as Chairman of the Mortality and Morbidity Committee, demonstrating his leadership in improving the quality of healthcare and patient safety.

His arrival marks another important milestone in our continued efforts to strengthen pediatric services and ensure that every child in Pohnpei has access to quality, compassionate, and specialized healthcare.

🇫🇲🤝🇺🇸 A Historic Milestone for the People of Pohnpei!

Today marks a truly remarkable and hopeful chapter in the history of healthcare in Pohnpei.

We are proud to announce the reinstatement of the Pohnpei State Hospital–Tripler Army Medical Center Referral Program, reopening the door to life-saving medical care for our people. Under this renewed partnership, Tripler Army Medical Center will once again accept patients referred by Pohnpei State Hospital and will cover the costs of airfare and medical treatment, providing hope and access to specialized care for those who need it most.

This important achievement was made possible through a high-level meeting led by Governor Stevenson A. Joseph, accompanied by First Lady Dr. Aina Garstang, Director Stuard Penias, Dr. Payne Perman, and Medical Coordinator Hinden Alexander.

Representing Tripler Army Medical Center were Commander Col. William Bimson, Col. Charles Nguyen, Capt. Angela Viers, and Protocol Officer Joel Jenkins, whose commitment and willingness to strengthen this partnership are deeply appreciated.

The meeting concluded on a very positive note, with both sides reaffirming their shared commitment to improving healthcare services for the people of Pohnpei. We are also delighted to announce that the Tripler team will soon visit Pohnpei to continue strengthening this collaboration and further enhance medical services for our community.

A Historic Milestone for Healthcare in Pohnpei!

Today marks a significant step forward as the Pohnpei Healthcare Plan Board of Directors convened its very first meeting, moving the Pohnpei Healthcare Plan Act of 1993 from legislation into implementation after many years.

During the meeting, the Board elected its officers:
• Chairman: Mr. Perdus Ehsa
• Vice Chairman: Mr. Paulino Rosario
• Secretary: Mr. Ieske Iehsi

The Board's primary mission is to develop a healthcare plan that expands access to quality healthcare for those who are not currently covered by MiCare, particularly our hardworking farmers, fishermen, and other uninsured residents.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Governor Stevenson A. Joseph, Lt. Governor Herolyn S. Movick, and the Pohnpei State Legislature for their unwavering leadership and support in advancing this important initiative.

Together, we are building a healthier and more inclusive future for all Pohnpeians.

We are excited to share another improvement at Pohnpei State Hospital with the addition of new chairs to our Outpatient Department, providing a more comfortable and welcoming environment for our patients and visitors.

Today, we were honored to welcome Dr. Richynne Gallen to Pohnpei State Hospital. Having successfully completed her medical studies, Dr. Gallen has returned home to answer the noble call of serving the people of Pohnpei.

She is one of the few young Pohnpeian doctors who graduated this year and chose to come back home to strengthen our healthcare workforce. Her commitment to giving back to her community is truly inspiring and reflects the bright future of healthcare in our state.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Gallen and all our newly graduated doctors who have chosen to serve our people.
