Congratulations to our Sports Development Team! 👏
The sports development team at Aneurin Leisure Trust has been shortlisted in the Community category of the BASIS (the British Association for Sustainable Sport) Awards 2026, for their work establishing and running the Community Kit Room.
The BASIS awards are a celebration of sustainability in sport and shine a spotlight on the people, projects and organisations that make a difference and lead the way in innovation and sustainability across the sector. The Community category recognises sport-led local engagement, social regeneration, and community-driven environmental initiatives.
The Community Kit Room was established to reduce financial barriers that prevent individuals and families from participating in sport and physical activity, whilst increasing accessibility and inclusion by ensuring people have access to appropriate sports clothing and footwear. The initiative has created a sustainable, community-led system that gives sportswear a second life rather than sending it to landfill, encouraging environmental responsibility through donation, reuse and recycling.
The Community Kit Room is a free initiative, redistributing sports clothing and footwear to people of all ages across Blaenau Gwent, who may otherwise face barriers to participating in sport and physical activity. Since its launch in 2023, the Community Kit Room has helped 820 individuals and redistributed 1,800 items of clothing and footwear. Since February 2025, over 1,000kg of textiles have been recycled.
Congratulations to all the nominees of the 2026 BASIS awards. The awards take place on 5th November.
