Keir Starmer is resigning as an MP to focus on “international affairs” and “protecting women and girls”.

The former prime minister, who supported Israel as it killed at least 38,000 women and girls in Gaza, will stand down from his seat in Holborn and St Pancras in London, triggering a byelection.

"I will now focus on other things and that will be international affairs including defence, security, trade and technology in a fast-changing world,” he told the Camden New Journal newspaper.

"I will also continue, as I have done for a long time now with others, to work on combating violence against women and girls; that is an issue that matters to me hugely. It’s work I started before I became an MP and it’s work I’m keen to continue after I’m an MP.”

Starmer is reportedly interested in becoming secretary general of Nato, a role that is set to fall vacant in 2028.

Half of Britons would support banning the trade of goods and services linked to illegal settlements in the West Bank, new polling from YouGov shows.

While 16% of respondents opposed the idea and 34% said they didn’t know, 50% of Brits who took part in the poll said they were in favour of an all-out trade ban.

Since the genocide in Gaza began, Israel has escalated settler violence and displacement of Palestinian communities in the West Bank. On August 19, Israel opened tenders for the construction of 1,200 illegal new homes on occupied Palestinian land.

This Friday, we held our fundraising and boycott stall at Owain Glyndŵr Square in Aberystwyth.

After a bit of a false start — we forgot the bucket at home! — a huge thank you to The Food Surplus at Porthi Aber , who very kindly provided us with a container to collect donations in . It’s genuinely heartwarming to be able to ask your community for help and have people so readily step up.

It really picked up from there. We met locals, familiar faces, students and tourists. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to donate, say hello, or simply smile as they walked past. Every bit of support meant a lot and every donation helps.

Families in Gaza rely on donations to survive.

Every day, families are trying to raise enough money to buy food, clean water, medicine, clothing, shelter and other essentials while living through displacement, danger and immense hardship. For many, fundraising campaigns are their only source of hope and support.

Every donation can help someone get through another day.

Please support Palestinian families by donating to their campaigns, sharing their stories, and helping to keep them visible.

Huge thanks to our friends Sue and Elizabeth for holding a car boot sale to raise money for the 3 families we sponsor in Gaza. ❤️

Elizabeth and Sue met in 2019, when Elizabeth put an advert in the local paper looking for people who would advocate for a Free Palestine. They became friends and started doing a series of car boots to raise money for UNRWA.

Then, in 2023, they helped start the Aberystwyth Wednesday vigil and have stood on the street every week, in rain, sun and shine, ever since.

Stalwart activists, Sue and Elizabeth were moved to help with Palestine Solidarity Aberystwyth’s recent campaign to sponsor and send money directly to 3 families in Gaza, and wanted to raise funds for them.

Families in Gaza are facing unimaginable hardship. Whilst we can’t help everyone, we can make a meaningful difference to a few, and hope other groups and individuals will be inspired to sponsor a family too.

If you would like to donate or help raise funds, please get in touch. Every single donation makes a difference. ❤️

Diolch o galon i’n ffrindiau Sue ac Elizabeth am gynnal gwerthiant cist car i godi a***n ar gyfer y 3 theulu penodol rydym yn eu noddi yn Gaza. ❤️

Cyfarfu Elizabeth a Sue yn 2019, pan osododd Elizabeth hysbyseb yn y papur lleol yn chwilio am bobl a fyddai’n sefyll dros Balestina Rydd. Daethant yn ffrindiau a dechrau cynnal gwerthiannau cist car i godi a***n i UNRWA.

Yna, yn 2023, bu iddynt helpu i sefydlu gwylnos Aberystwyth ar ddydd Mercher, ac maent wedi bod yn sefyll ar y stryd bob wythnos, ym mhob tywydd, ers hynny.

Fel gweithredwyr ymroddedig, cafodd Sue ac Elizabeth eu hysbrydoli i helpu gydag ymgyrch ddiweddar Palestine Solidarity Aberystwyth i noddi 3 theulu yn Gaza ac anfon a***n yn uniongyrchol atynt, ac roeddent am godi a***n ar eu cyfer.

Mae teuluoedd yn Gaza yn wynebu caledi annirnadwy. Er na allwn helpu pawb, gallwn wneud gwahaniaeth ystyrlon i rai, ac rydym yn gobeithio y bydd grwpiau ac unigolion eraill yn cael eu hysbrydoli i noddi teulu hefyd.

Os hoffech gyfrannu neu helpu i godi a***n, cysylltwch â ni. Mae pob rhodd, waeth pa mor fach, yn gwneud gwahaniaeth. ❤️

A huge thank you to everyone who came to the Silent Barefoot Walk at the weekend.

It was a really good turnout, with lots of people walking, donating and showing their solidarity. Passers-by stopped to watch, ask questions and donate too.

Thanks to everyone’s generosity, together we raised enough for Ziad and Lulu to buy their solar-powered lamp — they used it last night and baby Celine slept better .

In Gaza, solar lamps can cost around $350. This lamp might seem like a small thing, but it means that six-month-old Celine won’t be so scared of the dark at night. We can’t help everyone, but we’ve helped make the nights a little easier for one little girl. ❤️

Thank you to everyone who donated, fundraised, walked, shared the donation link or simply showed up.

Ziad’s family rely entirely on donations. If you would like to continue to support them, their Chuffed link can be found in our Linktree at the top of our page under “Links”, or in the first comment on this post on our page.

Every bit of support makes a difference. ❤️

Diolch yn fawr iawn i bawb a ddaeth i’r Daith Droednoeth Dawel dros y penwythnos.

Roedd yn dro da iawn, gyda llawer o bobl yn cerdded, yn rhoi rhoddion ac yn dangos eu hundod. Stopiodd pobl oedd yn mynd heibio i wylio, gofyn cwestiynau a rhoi rhoddion hefyd.

Diolch i haelioni pawb, gyda’n gilydd fe godon ni ddigon o a***n i Ziad a Lulu brynu eu lamp solar — fe wnaethon nhw ei defnyddio neithiwr, a chafodd y babi Celine noson well o gwsg.

Yn Gaza, gall lampau solar gostio tua $350. Efallai bod y lamp hon yn ymddangos fel rhywbeth bach, ond mae’n golygu na fydd Celine, sy’n chwe mis oed, mor ofnus o’r tywyllwch gyda’r nos. Ni allwn helpu pawb, ond rydyn ni wedi helpu i wneud y nosweithiau ychydig yn haws i un ferch fach. ❤️

Diolch i bawb a roddodd gyfraniad, a gododd a***n, a gerddodd, a rannodd y ddolen gyfrannu, neu a ddaeth i gefnogi.

Mae teulu Ziad yn dibynnu’n llwyr ar roddion. Os hoffech barhau i’w cefnogi, gallwch ddod o hyd i’w dolen Chuffed yn ein Linktree ar frig ein tudalen Facebook, o dan “Dolenni”, neu yn y sylw cyntaf ar y post hwn ar ein tudalen.

Mae pob darn o gefnogaeth yn gwneud gwahaniaeth. ❤️

Israel calls children’s kits - “an act of war in every respect, and anyone who organizes, launches, or enables these launches will be dealt with immediately and with the utmost severity."

Four kites landed in Israeli Kibbutz Nahal Oz near the Gaza Strip on 22 Aug, with other kites reported in the previous weeks, causing fear among Israelis.

Israeli media said that the regional council in the area was "concerned" and demanded "that Israel take action” against these kites.

On 23 Aug, Israel's Defence Minister Israel Katz said he instructed the (army) to act forcefully against any object that reaches the Gaza border area. Katz said “we regard every launch as an act of war in every respect, and anyone who organizes, launches, or enables these launches will be dealt with immediately and with the utmost severity."

Last weekend we took our fundraising stall to El Sueño Existe festival in Machynlleth — a radical festival of solidarity with South American people.

Over the weekend, we welcomed visitors from all over the world and met members of Palestine Solidarity groups from across the UK, from the Outer Hebrides to Brighton.

Across the country, people are standing up against injustice in many ways — from weekly vigils and boycott campaigns, to pension fund divestment, protesting weapons manufacturing, and those arrested simply for holding cardboard signs.

It was a reminder that we can’t all do everything, but when we support and encourage each other, we can make collective progress bigger than the sum of its parts.

At PSAber, we’ve chosen to show solidarity with Palestinians by raising money for a small number families in Gaza who rely entirely on donations from abroad for necessities such as food, water, shelter, medication and baby food.

We are all just drops in the ocean, but together we can become a sea of change. 🌊✊❤️

Y penwythnos diwethaf, aethom â’n stondin godi a***n i ŵyl El Sueño Existe ym Machynlleth — gŵyl radical o undod â phobl De America.

Dros y penwythnos, croesawom ymwelwyr o bob cwr o’r byd a chwrdd ag aelodau o grwpiau Undod â Phalestina o bob rhan o’r DU, o Ynysoedd Heledd i Brighton.

Ledled y wlad, mae pobl yn sefyll yn erbyn anghyfiawnder mewn sawl ffordd — o wylnosau ac ymgyrchoedd boicot, i wrthwynebu gweithgynhyrchu arfau, a’r rhai sydd wedi cael eu harestio am ddal arwyddion cardfwrdd.

Roedd yn ein hatgoffa na allwn ni i gyd wneud popeth, ond drwy gefnogi ein gilydd, gallwn wneud cynnydd ar y cyd.

Yn PSAber, rydym yn dangos undod â Phalestiniaid drwy godi a***n i deuluoedd yn Gaza sy’n dibynnu ar roddion o dramor ar gyfer bwyd, dŵr, lloches, meddyginiaeth a bwyd babanod.

Dim ond diferion yn y môr ydyn ni i gyd, ond gyda’n gilydd gallwn ddod yn fôr o newid. 🌊✊❤️
