Highlights from the the July Parish Council meeting
Dog fouling
West Oxfordshire District Council (WODC) is consulting on introducing a Public Safety Control Order across all public spaces in the District. This would make it an offence for a dog owner not to clear up after their dog. The Parish Council has expressed its support for this. Members of the public can add their comments at https://www.westoxon.gov.uk/communities-and-leisure/community-safety/anti-social-behaviour/public-space-protection-orders/ .
Speed limit review
The County Council is reviewing speed limits on a number of main roads, including the possibility of reducing the limit on the A4020 between Alvescot and Carterton. The Parish Council strongly supports this proposal, as it has argued for it for many years. There will be a public consultation later in the year.
Playground inspection
The playground, playing field and multi-use games area recently received their annual visit from safety inspectors. No major issues were identified. These facilities are regularly monitored by the Parish Council, a task for which volunteers are invited to help. Any adult or older teenager prepared to commit a couple of hours of their time occasionally should contact the Parish Clerk at [email protected] .
Proposed data centre in Shilton
The Parish Council has objected to this proposal on the grounds that it would be inappropriate in this scenicly valuable, relatively isolated greenfield location and would create a dangerous precedent. The application can be viewed on WODC's planning site https://publicaccess.westoxon.gov.uk/online-applications/simpleSearchResults.do?action=firstPage .
The next meeting of the Parish Council will be on Wednesday 16 September at 7.30 p.m. in the village hall. All welcome.
