So many hoglets in this weekend!

A mum who gave her everything to her 4 100g each hoglets but passed away at 515g dehydrated and with a jaw injury 😞

Hoglets found in driveways, in gardens, on walks and in parks. 15 orphans none over 150g needing intensive care.

We also had another 4 adults admitted into the rescue - dehydration, severe fly strike and a strimmer injury.

Busy doesn’t quite cut it! Exhausted and hot!

🦔Our hoglets are all getting fat - with Daphne showing us her bed making skills!🦔

Although hoglets get all the press, I am still taking in poorly adults too - with 5 adults on top of the 4 hoglets admitted in the last few days.

🌈Unfortunately I couldn’t save them all, and we have lost Hartford, Hilda and Blossom 🌈 it’s devastating to loose any hedgehog but they were warm, fed and in no pain which is a small comfort.

🦔PHEW we are busy! 🦔

3 more hoglets (2 and 3 weeks old) and 2 adult hedgehogs admitted into the rescue!

I know compared to some other rescues this is a small number, but for us it’s a lot.

We have 20 adults, 8 hoglets (3 being hand fed) and 1 family group in our care - with 🤞some releases happened soon!

I now have 5 hoglets that I am hand raising - all under 100g and likely 3 weeks old or less.

Things I have learnt so far:

🦔4 hourly feeds are a joy (if you enjoy regular acts of torture)
🦔The mess is worse than a toddler tea party as they need a full clean out at least 4 times a day.
🦔The smell is worse than a teenage boys bedroom in the summer.
🦔Oh and they are awkward buggers - but so tremendously cute!!!!

🦔2 orphaned hoglets 🦔

Weighing 50g each and covered in flystrike

After a lot of mascara wands, tweezering and 2 hours later they are flystrike free and requiring 4 hourly feeds.

Fingers crossed for these two very tiny piggies
