📰 My latest column for the Angus County Press on the Scottish Young Carers Festival and the importance of recognising the contribution carers make, and of ensuring that support is there throughout every stage of their lives.

Within our communities voices can too easily go unheard or find themselves at the edges of policymaking, without a seat at the table. Young carers are one example of that, and listening to their experiences is essential if we are to make decisions that genuinely reflect the lives of the people we represent.

✍️ During the festival, I was proud to sign the Young Carers’ Pledge. When I signed it, I wrote a commitment that I want to carry through my work as an MP: “To stand by you at every stage of your life. To listen, to learn from you, and to make sure that you are always at the centre of the conversation.”

💧This week I attended a very exciting meeting about a project I am really passionate about — the Dighty Burn Regeneration project.

🌳Collaborating with SEPA, Scottish Forestry and Dundee City Council, this project is a long term plan to rewild the burn, make the Dighty a community asset, and to expand active travel routes from Fintry all the way through Douglas to the Ferry.

👷🏻‍♀️The Burn has such a strong historic significance to the old industrial Dundee, and now it plays a huge part in our community identity. I want to see the Burn thrive and I’m really excited to be working alongside such a committed team to make this happen.

📣ANNOUNCEMENT📣

👫When I was elected I made a promise to champion and support our young people.

🤝That’s a promise I intend to keep.

🎉So I am excited to announce that I will be running an internship programme for young people in the constituency.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿Focusing on providing an access to politics for young people who might not otherwise have one, I will be offering opportunities to students, high schoolers, young carers and new Scot’s across Arbroath and Broughty Ferry.

👀 So if you’re a young person who wants to learn more about politics, keep your eyes peeled for more details which will be coming soon.

🥀 Labour promised energy bills would come down.

📈 Instead, bills are about to rise again — reaching their highest level in three years.

😐 Another broken Labour promise, leaving families to pay more while Westminster’s broken market fails to deliver.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Scotland is energy rich, yet households continue to pay the price for a broken Westminster energy market.

⚡️ We have the energy. We need the powers.

Today the First Minister has announced a new walk in GP clinic in Arbroath. This is a huge commitment to our community, and is a pledge to make health care more accessible for folk in our town.

This promise from the SNP is part of a £531m initiative, which will ensure everyone can be seen by a GP when it suits them - something we know is important to families here.

We have both been working behind the scenes to bring this initiative to Arbroath, and we are both so proud to be supporting the announcement today.

Today I had the opportunity to visit Craignathro Farm with Dave Doogan MP to meet Director Matthew Steel and representatives from NFUS.

Dating back to 1952, Craignathro has a long history as a farming business, and it was fascinating to hear how it has evolved over the decades while continuing to adapt to the changing realities of Scottish agriculture.

We heard directly about the opportunities and challenges facing farmers today, and the importance of ensuring that those working in our agricultural communities have a voice in the decisions that affect their livelihoods.

Having grown up in rural Angus, I’m alive to the challenges faced by our farming community, but also the opportunities that our farmers have to contribute towards crucial food security and the economy here in Scotland.

Thank you to Matthew and everyone at Craignathro for taking the time to speak with us and share their experiences. Listening to our farming communities is essential to getting the policy right.

👷‍♀️I was honoured to join the team last week for the Topping out Ceremony of Sutherland House.

🏠This project is a fantastic example of the power of community focused initiatives — Scottish investors, local employment, and focusing on the local need.

🔨 Supporting apprenticeships for our young folk and bringing hundreds of jobs to Broughty Ferry.

🤝 When the team asked me what this project meant for Broughty Ferry, the three things that sprung to mind were: careers, community and compassion.
