This is Georgie.
Last year Georgie joined us here at Strachur Fire Station as a volunteer Firefighter.
This then inspired her to apply to join the Fire Service as a whole time Firefighter. We would like to congratulate Georgie for completing her first day of training today at Cambuslang training centre, SFRS HQ, Glasgow and we here at Strachur fire station would like to wish her the best of luck for the rest of her course and her future career.

Community firefighting in Strachur fits around real life.
People balance the role alongside other jobs, family life, caring responsibilities, and the realities of living in a rural area. Availability is discussed openly and honestly.
It’s not about being available all the time - it’s about what’s realistic and sustainable for you.
Conversations come first.

A lot of people think: “I wouldn’t be confident enough” or “I wouldn’t know what to do.”
No one joins Strachur already knowing how to be a firefighter. Skills and confidence are built gradually through training, support, and experience.
What matters at the start is being willing to learn and looking out for others.
Everyone begins somewhere.

Life at Strachur Community Fire Station isn’t constant blue lights.
Most training evenings are about personal development, checking equipment, talking things through, and learning as a team — with the kettle on more often than the sirens.
Being ready for emergencies starts long before we’re called out. Preparation, trust, and teamwork matter just as much as equipment.
It’s a small station, and people get to know each other properly.

We are proud to be supporting LGBT+ History Month. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

SFRS is an inclusive employer. Throughout the month of February, our national HQ at Cambuslang, and other service delivery area HQs will fly the Rainbow flag to show support and to celebrate our LGBTQ+ colleagues and LGBTQ+ communities across Scotland.

Strachur Community Fire Station is looking for local people who want to support their community and be there when it matters.
You don’t need previous fire service experience, and you don’t need to fit a particular mould. What matters is being dependable, willing to learn, and comfortable working as part of a small, supportive team.
Community firefighters respond to local emergencies, support neighbours on what may be one of the worst days of their lives, and help keep Strachur and the surrounding area safe. Full training and ongoing support are provided.
If you’ve ever thought “I wonder if I could do that?” - it might be worth a conversation.
For an informal chat or more information, message the page or speak to any member of the Strachur Community Fire Station team.
