A lot goes on behind the scenes to keep healthcare services running smoothly.

Estates and facilities teams are often the hardworking, hidden heroes responsible for catering, cleaning, repairs, maintenance and creating safe, welcoming environments for patients and staff.

Every year, managers from the team roll up their sleeves and swap their usual roles on a ‘back to the floor day’.

The switch gives managers the chance to gain a deeper understanding of the day-to-day challenges, pressures and achievements of colleagues.

This year, at Birch Hill Hospital, Alexander, facilities manager, served breakfasts in the Haven Café.

Sean, estates operations manager, worked alongside a facilities assistant on Hollingworth ward.

While Chris, sustainability manager, and Michelle, senior facilities manager, joined the estates team to experience their day-to-day work.

Greater Manchester’s Month of Hope starts this Thursday.

From World Su***de Prevention Day (10 September) to World Mental Health Day (10 October) everyone can play a role in preventing su***de.

There are many ways to get involved, including online training, webinars and events taking place right across Greater Manchester.

Zero Su***de Alliance is hosting a free practical session on su***de awareness and supportive conversations.

You can also complete their free 30-minute training to learn to save a life, recognising the signs that someone may be thinking of su***de and how to support them.

There are two events and vigils taking place on Thursday 10 September:

In Ashton, The Anthony Seddon Fund su***de awareness walk and vigil starts from 5pm at Tameside Wellness Centre in Denton.

In Bury, The Big Fandango memory walk and vigil starts from 6pm at Key Gardens.

Brave fundraisers are invited to fire walk for Pennine Care Charity 👣🔥

Our charity’s fire walk is taking pace on Monday 2 November, from 5-8pm, at our HQ in Ashton.

Conquer fear by walking across a bed of glowing embers in support of mental health, learning disability and autism services across Greater Manchester.

Pennine Care Charity raises funds for projects, activities and improvements that go beyond NHS funding, helping to improve experiences and opportunities for patients, carers and local people.

Recent projects include therapy activities for young people with learning disabilities, sensory and relaxation spaces on mental health wards, music and sports sessions, gardening and allotment groups to support recovery, and experiences and activities for people living with dementia.

Before taking on the challenge, you'll receive comprehensive safety training and guidance from experienced fire walk professionals.

A wagging tail can make a big difference🐾

A huge thank you to the volunteers who bring their furry friends along to our mental health and learning disability services.

Therapy dogs Archie and Annie provide plenty of comfort, companionship and smiles for patients at The Meadows.

Whether it's helping someone feel calmer, encouraging conversation, or simply brightening a difficult day, these four-legged friends are always welcome.

A little rain wasn't going to stop Manchester Pride 🌈☔

It was great to be part of the parade last weekend alongside colleagues and fantastic to see so much support for the NHS.

Thousands of people came together to celebrate Pride, inclusion and belonging. We're proud to stand with our LGBTQ+ communities.

Typical Manchester weather was even more fitting for this year's theme of No Place Like Home.
