From flying and gliding, to gaining BTEC qualifications, road marching and leading expeditions and traveling across the country (if not the world), we are celebrating everything the Royal Air Force Air Cadets has to offer over these past 85 years! ✈️

From where we started out on 05 February 1941 to where we are now in 2026, it has sometimes been a rollercoaster and sometimes there have been many an obstacle - but it’s always been an adventure. RAFAC wouldn’t be here without the last 85 years of history, passion, learning and dedication that our cadets, volunteers and permanent staff bring every day.

Here’s to another 85 years of growing and succeeding - and being the best youth organisation there is🏆

Share your memories and pictures of RAFAC with us and we’ll feature your journey on our page!

Thankyou to everyone who provided the photos 📸©️

Earlier this month, 14 Squadrons and 53 brilliant cadets from across Devon & Somerset Wing put their walking legs to the test as part of the Wing’s Tens Tors training 🥾

There were 8 teams in total, with 5 teams preparing for 35 miles, 2 teams for 45 miles and 1 team for 55 miles! It was a great day all in all, with teams covering between 13km to 28km (8 miles to 17 miles) across the day.

As you can tell, it was a rather cold day but every cadet had the right kit and equipment (somewhat of a first in RAFAC perhaps?) and almost every cadet had the correct paperwork 🤝

It was a really successful day with cadets learning about cold injury, navigation, teamwork and emergency procedures. Well done to all cadets involved in the day and a huge thankyou to all the volunteer staff for assisting on the day and keeping our cadets safe, to all parents and carers for providing lifts to and from and to all those who coordinated the training.

If your Wing and Squadron have been to up some hiking shenanigans across the South West then do send us your photos and updates to share!

‼️South West Region’s event of the YEAR (no bias) is coming back this Summer! ‼️

Exercise Pagan Warrior is a week long fieldcraft camp for cadets across the Region, where you’ll learn about navigation, fieldcraft tactics, teamwork and leadership and not see a shower for quite a few days. All excellent fun and a fantastic opportunity to put the fieldcraft lessons from your Squadron and Wing into further practice!

Keep an eye on Cadet Portal for more information as the sign-up will be coming out soon. In the meantime, get in touch with your Wing Fieldcraft and Shooting Officers to make sure you have all the qualifications needs to take part.

Cadets will need to be L98 trained and ideally Silver Level in the Progressive Training Syllabus (PTS).

At the end of November, the SW Region Fieldcraft Team delivered Continued Professional Development (CPD) training to SA(M) (07) holders and Fieldcraft Training Instructors (FTI) from across the Corps.
The training was designed to provide students with an enhanced base knowledge and a deeper understanding of tactical operations.

Students operated as a section across day and night training scenarios and received initial weapons training on pyrotechnics approved for Cadet Forces use, a development supported by the Regional Commandant.

Thankyou to everyone who coordinated the training and well done to all the students who took part!

Without our volunteers, our organisation simply wouldn’t exist. Every single day, you show up to make sure Squadrons can open, Wings can operate and our Region continues to grow. Our volunteers provide new opportunities for young people week in and week out, support their growth and development, and make sure everyone stays safe throughout.

We’re celebrating you all this International Volunteers Day! Thank you for everything you do; it’s noticed and it’s very much appreciated 🤝

Highlight the incredible volunteers at your Squadron and Wing in the comments to help us share even more of what we do 💡

Today, the South West Region Royal Air Force Air Cadets honoured those who have served and continue to serve in our Armed Forces.

Cadets and staff across our Region proudly paraded as we commemorate and reflect on the sacrifices made by our serving members.

🎶 National Music Camp 2025 🎶

Cadets from across RAFAC travelled to RAF Halton for the National Music Camp to develop their marching routines, practice their music and continuity drill displays and perform live with pride! It was a fantastic week, as cadets geared up for a rather important upcoming gig… at the Birmingham International Tattoo in February next year and to celebrate our organisation’s 85th Birthday🥁

Well done to all our South West Region cadets, whom absolutely crushed it across the week. Thankyou to all the volunteers, staff and Royal Air Force Halton for coordinating a great camp. Thankyou to and for fantastic music tuition and support for our cadets.
