If you'd like to help make change for inclusion and have a proactive attitude SAAP offers a listening and funnelling ear to increase access to disability services. You are welcome to come to our meetings on third thursdays (next is 17/9) at the VASA offices, Boswell House, opposite the Gaiety theatre,Ayr, 10-12am (there is a lift inside the entrance, buzzer system at the door)

Innovative access adaptation. Darren's dad demonstrates a wheelchair hoist he has installed himself in their motor home so Darren can go on fun weekends out as here at Cullerlie Traditional Singing festival. He bought it second hand for £300 and it means Darren can use the facilities in the van if wheelchair access is limited.

Dear Access Panel,
We are inviting deaf people and people with a hearing impairment from across Scotland to take part in an online consultation on accessible travel.

This session is being delivered with Transport Scotland as part of the engagement work to hear lived experience and gather views for the successor to the current Accessible Travel Framework, which comes to an end this year. During the online session, participants will be guided through a series of discussion questions exploring the barriers and challenges that deaf people and people with a hearing impairment can experience when travelling. Your experiences and insights will play an important role in informing future transport policy and helping to create a more accessible transport system for everyone.

nice to see some hotels catering for the disabled as do, though they shouldn't expect everyone to enjoy the same activities and force inclusion

Next free (thanks to Concern) supported trip out for the less able from Troon and Loans to shop and meet others is 17th August, we will be going to Gemmells Garden Centre and gift shop. There is space on the bus for wheelchairs and rollators and carers of course. Transport is provided to and from homes. To book a place contact [email protected] or message us here

Our first outing to Dundonald garden centre was greatly enjoyed. On Wednesday the 27th May thanks to a grant from Age Concern, SAAP was able to arrange the first of 4 outings, this time for residents of Ayr and Prestwick. Our group was made up of residents from Whitletts Sheltered Housing and also Sheltered Housing in Prestwick. The remainder 3 ladies either had mobility issues and or live alone, so at times find it difficult to get out.
We went to who made us very welcome. We must have chosen one of the hottest days we've had recently. A great time was had by all as the photos show.
