In early December, Autumn Life were referred to an elderly gentleman by the Social Prescriber at one of our local surgeries. Living alone, and previously very independent, Percy (not his real name) can no longer drive and therefore spent all his time at home without help or companionship, relying on frozen food deliveries & his TV. Although hugely reluctant to initially accept assistance or the need for companionship ("what have I got to talk about ?"), Percy now looks forwards to our visits, chats about his long service with British Rail, and as with all our clients, become extremely fond of Holly ! Autumn Life now do his shopping, once again getting all the things Percy used to enjoy, and assist with his housework & laundry. We've been able to help with buying a new microwave and a new larger TV is next on the list ! But most of all, Percy sees a familiar face twice a week for a good old chat !
If you know someone in a similar position, or are yourself lonely with little social interaction with the outside world, please do get in touch. A touch of kindness, together with the comforting companionship of a dog for an hour or two a week can make a significant impact to an otherwise lonely life.
