We are reminding all that the permissive access from Denby Lane onto the Denby Delf nature reserve remains closed.

We are following the leads of other conservation and utility organisations who are taking a cautious approach to re-opening their sites following the government’s new guidelines. This is because we do not want the Delf to be swamped again with people and dogs displaced from elsewhere, increasing the risks for people and wildlife.

We would like to thank West Yorkshire Police for their follow-up action at the Delf, and local people for their forbearance with the restriction from the main road.

Please note again that the public footpaths remain open, as does a circular permissive route around the centre (please follow the plan).

We are aware that our decision has not pleased everyone, however the pandemic is an extraordinary event that requires us all to be patient and stay safe.

On a positive note, the meadows have responded to the good weather and the emergency early cutting, and are quickly putting on new growth.

We’ve been asked for further clarification on our decision to close the permissive path at Denby Delf.

We are closing the path from the main road across the field and the meadows. The public footpaths remain open, as does the permissive circular walk around the Delf. However, it must be accessed from the public rights of way.

We welcome local people using the site as part of their daily exercise and following the government guidelines.

What we do not condone is increased numbers of people still arriving by car to walk their dogs because other local attractions have been closed.

It is illegal, as well as being damaging to the wildlife we are trying to protect. It also puts genuine local people at higher risk of contracting the disease.

We therefore feel that by closing the permissive footpath from the road this will deter those people who have no regard for others or the environment.

The plan shows the public footpath network around the village of Upper Denby as well as the permissive access.

We ask all visitors to respect the government guidelines concerning the Coronavirus pandemic.

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak we have decided to close all permissive access to our Denby Delf reserve.

Public rights of way remain open but we ask users to respect Government guidelines on social distancing and to keep dogs on leads to protect ground nesting birds.
