Summer Reading Challenge events are happening in Dorset Libraries!
Join in for a summer packed with stories, creativity, and fun.
Dorset Libraries are celebrating the Summer Reading Challenge with lots of exciting events and activities happening right across the county
From craft sessions and storytimes to special events and themed activities, there’s something for every young reader to enjoy. It’s a brilliant way to keep children engaged, boost their reading confidence, and make new friends over the holidays.
Whilst your there remember to sign up to the Summer Reading Challenge. You get stickers for each event you attend as well as books you read.

Looking for something simple and relaxed to do over the summer holidays? Join us for 'Sunshine & Stories'!
Bring a picnic and rug, enjoy time with friends old and new, let the children play, and share some lovely stories together.
We will be joined by Beaminster Library who will be bringing along a selection of wonderful books for us to enjoy.
Our summer dates are:
Tuesday 4th August, 11am-1pm, Broadwindsor Park
Tuesday 11th August, 11am-1pm, Mosterton Park
Tuesday 25th August, 11am-1pm, Salway Ash Park
We have kindly been given permission to park at the village halls but please be mindful of other hall users.
Pop the dates in your diary, we'd love to see you there

Don't forget that you can use the Summer Reading Challenge 2026: Read to the Beat website to Unlock special online badges and a certificate when you reach your Challenge goal!

We are ready to launch The Reading Agency’s Summer Reading Challenge 2026: Read to the Beat, delivered by The Reading Agency in partnership with public libraries and powered by Universal Music UK.
We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone into the library tomorrow!
Did you know there is also a Teacher’s Reading Challenge. The Teachers’ Reading Challenge is designed to help teachers discover a diverse range of books to share with every reader in their school. It’s always great to see teachers getting involved and sharing what they’re reading – it makes a real difference in encouraging children to take part. The link to find out more is in the first comment.
Pop into any Dorset Library to sign up, find out more, and get ready to start your summer of reading.

Many people come into the library asking for recommendations, which is sometimes difficult as readers have different tastes and expectations. Our recommendations wall has provided inspiration for our library community and we would like to add to it. Beaminster Library has not gone above 24.5⁰ this week, despite the heat outside. Please do use our space, alongside the Museum and the Church as a cool space where you can work, read, use the WIFI or just rest. We are open today until 1pm and tomorrow (Thursday) from 2pm – 5pm.
