🎨☀️ Summer fun with the Education & Diversion Team! ☀️🎨

The Education & Diversion Team are continuing to engage with young people throughout the summer holidays, and today some of us had a fantastic time at Everyone's Gang in Kempston.

Young people (and officers! 😊) got the chance to unleash their creativity and design their own canvas artwork. There were some brilliant creations on display, plenty of smiles, and lots of fun had by everyone involved.

These events provide a great opportunity to chat with young people, build positive relationships, and hear about what matters to them, all while enjoying a creative activity together.

A big thank you to Everyone's Gang for having us. Look out for us at holiday clubs across the county- we might even bring along some Police uniform to try on! 🚓👮

| Last week we were telling you about Auror – a retail crime intelligence platform designed to link shop-lifting offences and help us arrest persistent offenders.

This week has seen another success with a suspect charged with 24 offences in and around Bedford with thefts worth hundreds of pounds between April and July. She will appear in court next month.

Auror collates intelligence and is used by hundreds of retailers nationwide. It has now been brought to Bedfordshire. It means retailers can contact officers more effectively with evidence of offending.

The platform then links incidents, building a profile of persistent offenders and building cases against them.

We know retail crime is a concern for local communities and this is one more tool in our campaign to bring the criminals to justice.

Don’t forget you can report issues directly to us using our webchat facility here https://orlo.uk/p9F55 or call 101.

You can also report anonymously at Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

🚓☀️ Our volunteers have been hard at work across Bedfordshire this past month – even during the heatwave, and yes, that includes our four-legged volunteers too! 🐾🐎

Together, they achieved:

✅ 563 volunteer hours completed
✅ 262 Community Speed Watch letters issued
✅ 4 repeat speeding motorists referred to local policing teams for follow-up visits

These results are only possible thanks to the incredible dedication, commitment and support of our volunteers. Your efforts help make our communities safer every day.

👏 A huge thank you to everyone involved.

Auror – a retail crime intelligence platform used by hundreds of retailers nationwide is now being used by businesses in Bedfordshire and helping put criminals behind bars.

Officers have successfully progressed a complex theft investigation spanning multiple areas utilising the platform.

A suspect initially arrested by Hertfordshire for theft from shop offences was transferred to Bedfordshire after it came to light offences were also committed in the county.

Hertfordshire found the suspect and his associates were already on the radar of the NPCC, linked to thefts across several forces in the Eastern Region totalling approximately £40,000.

Further checks showed the group were also flagged on Auror for a number of high-value thefts, each over £1,000.

Retailers in the north of the county such as BP and Home Bargains are also making good use of the Auror system. As a result, multiple charges have already been secured against several prolific offenders, within 48 hours of direct reports.

In May 2026 alone:

• 123 reports were received
• £13,101.15 of stolen goods identified by Auror reports

| The hot weather means that demand on our services is exceptionally high.

Yesterday our control room took well over 1600 calls – almost 500 of them on the urgent 999 number.

Please bear in mind the pressure that call operators are working under, and treat them with the respect you’d expect to receive.

They will be prioritising calls, so if yours is not urgent, there may be a delay.

You can help us to help you by making the right call.

Does it really NEED to be a phone call ?

Many inquiries can be dealt with online via the webchat facility. It's the green button on the front page of our website: https://orlo.uk/HkNu9

Services are staffed by trained professionals in the Control Room, offering support without waiting on the phone.

And it leaves our phone handlers clear to deal with emergencies.

In an emergency call 999, but if it’s not urgent, please go online first — it helps us respond faster for everyone.
