The Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress had the honour of attending the Bexley Ladies Luncheon Club this afternoon to discuss Simunye, this years mayoral theme, as well as promote the three charities we are supporting this year, Crossroads SEL, Trulybeloved: and Diabetes UK Bexley Support Group.

The ladies, big fundraisers in their own right, kindly made a generous donation towards the chosen charities and wished us the best of luck for the year ahead.

The Deputy Mayor was delighted to attend St Catherine’s Catholic School for Girls’ 70th Anniversary Summer Fayre.

During the visit, the Deputy Mayor met current and former students and staff, as well as a number of local businesses and stallholders, including Hooked by Daniela, Rich Huntley Sweets and CraftyGang.

The Deputy Mayor also had the honour of drawing and announcing the raffle winners and enjoyed some excellent karaoke performances from four talented students.

It was a wonderful celebration of St Catherine’s remarkable 70-year history and the strong school community that has grown across generations. Congratulations to everyone involved in organising such a memorable occasion!

It was a real privilege for the Deputy Mayor to visit Marlborough Court Care Home and spend time meeting the wonderful residents and staff for their wine and cheese tasting.

Hearing their stories and sharing in such a warm and welcoming afternoon was a truly humbling experience.

A special mention to josh antony music for providing the fantastic entertainment and bringing so much joy to everyone there, and thank you to the whole team at Marlborough Court Care Home for the important work you do and for making us feel so welcome.

This Diabetes Week, I want to shine a light on a condition that touches millions — and the strength of the people living with it every day. It’s a cause that is incredibly close to our family’s heart.

I still remember the day our daughter was diagnosed with Type 1. Our world changed overnight. We learned firsthand the relentless daily challenges, the overwhelming adjustments, and the constant vigilance that go with such a diagnosis.

That’s why this year, one of the charities I’m supporting is Diabetes UK Bexley Support Group — a community that makes sure no one has to deal with diabetes on their own. The group meets every month and provides advice, support and collective strength.

Whether you’re managing diabetes, supporting someone who is, or learning for the first time, you’re part of this movement.

This diabetes week, let’s talk, learn, and take action — together. Make sure you can spot the signs. Fatigue, thirst, blurry vision — early awareness can change a life.

And please support my charity appeal this year.

On the 82nd anniversary of the D-Day landings, the Deputy Mayor took part in today's Honour Walk with the The Royal British Legion - Bexleyheath and Welling Branch.

The event would not have been possible without the support of the young people from the Police Cadets and Bexley & Lewisham Sea Cadets marshaling to make sure no one strayed too far off course.

It was humbling to see not just one, but three different community organisations, coming together, Simunye Bexley, to support a group to which we all owe so much, our veterans.

Thank you to everyone involved today, whether they be volunteers, participants or supporters.

The Deputy Mayor celebrated national at the newly refurbished Mr Chippy on Parkside Parade, alongside Barnehurst Councillors Howard Jackson and Michael Gillespie, Cabinet Member for Environment, Culture, and Leisure, Cllr Rags Sandhu, and Deputy Leader of the Council, Cllr Cameron Smith.

Whilst there, the Deputy Mayor met with Mel and Julie, who run the Slade Green Food Bank and heard about the services they provide to the most vulnerable in our community and the support they receive from Mr Chippy. The spirit of Bexley, Bexley Together on full display.

The Deputy Mayor was honoured to attend his first Citizenship Ceremony.

It was a privilege to welcome Bexley’s newest citizens as they made their pledge and began this exciting new chapter in their lives. Our borough is strengthened by the people who choose to make it their home, contribute to our communities and share in our future.

To all our new citizens, congratulations, and a very warm welcome, and thank you as always to Tariq Images for the excellent photography.

Tonight the Mayor was represented by former Mayor Sue Gower MBE JP and joined by local MPs Daniel Francis and Abena Appong-Asare at the 2026 Bexley Voluntary Excellence Awards.

This annual event, hosted by Bexkey Voluntary Service Council, celebrates Bexley’s amazing volunteers, and tonight awards were presented in seven categories.

Congratulations to all nominees, and to the award winners whose service to Bexley is outstanding.

Last night was one of those moments that truly shows what Bexley Together is all about.

Although not all live in our borough, the volunteers from the Community Hospice are a real example that our strength comes from standing together, supporting one another, and making sure no one is left to struggle.

Across Greenwich and Bexley, the Hospice helps people live as well as they can for as long as they can in a way that honours their values, beliefs and lifestyle.

The volunteers cover a range of roles, from welcoming families at reception, to keeping the grounds looking beautiful, working in shops, and visiting isolated neighbours who need a friendly face.

Their compassion, their time, their humanity - they change lives. They bring dignity. They bring comfort and they bring hope.

It was a privilege to present awards to a few of them and to speak to many more.

From the bottom of my heart - thank you.
