Today marks Jean Templeton’s official last day at St Basils after more than 25 years of incredible dedication, leadership and unwavering commitment to young people experiencing homelessness.

A huge thank you to The Old Crown in Digbeth for hosting Jean’s leaving celebration on Wednesday evening. It was a truly wonderful send-off, filled with colleagues, friends and business associates - all coming together to celebrate the impact Jean has made over the years and just how much she will be missed.

Thank you, Jean, on behalf of all of us.

As one chapter ends, another begins, and we’re delighted to welcome our new Chief Executive, Marsha Blake, who officially starts on Monday. We look forward to continuing Jean’s amazing work and building on the strong foundations she leaves behind.

A huge thanks to Helen King and the folks at Solihull School for sending us sandwiches to our Youth Hub and projects last week!

We were running low on supplies so it really made a difference to our young people and staff.

Hot weather can be unpleasant indoors, but when you're outside and have nowhere to go, the sun's rays can be unbearable.

Offer cold drinks where you can, and if you see someone rough sleeping in need of support you can contact Streetlink, who signpost to organisations like us to send an outreach worker to help.

Happy Pride, Brum! It has been an amazing day so far at Birmingham Pride! 🏳️‍🌈

We spent the day talking about youth homelessness, handing out skittles, meeting people who support what we do, and reminding people that LGBTQ+ young people are still disproportionately affected by homelessness in the UK and that there is help out there.

Thanks to everyone who volunteered, stopped for a chat, or waved and cheered at the parade!

If you are aged 16-25 and are at risk of homelessness, we can help: stbasils.org.uk/get-help/

We’re proud to be at Birmingham Pride today, preventing youth homelessness with PRIDE 🏳️‍🌈

1 in 4 LGBTQ+ young people aged 16–25 in the UK have experienced homelessness. No young person should lose their home for being who they are.

If you spot us in the parade, say hi or give us a wave 👋

Today we are paying tribute to Jo Caley. Jo was a long-term dedicated supporter of our cause. Just a few years back, she published a book of inspirational poems with funds from the book donated to us, called Cultivating Hope. The book was filled with positive and inspiring content for our young people, and sits proudly in some of our accommodation projects. She was a highly capable writer, and published beautiful poems regularly on her Instagram, .

Jo was also a passionate attendee at our events, recently attending the Big Sleepout - sleeping outside in the cold so a young person wouldn't have to. She championed anti-homelessness and truly made a huge impact on the lives of those we support.

Jo held our cause close to her heart, as well as being a regular workshop leader for the brilliant The Esther Project - Women of Worth - an organisation offering support to help disadvantaged women reach their potential.

Jo never stopped giving, whether that was through her workplace, through volunteering her time and skills, or sharing positive messages to those who needed it. Jo was bright, inspirational, and lifted up those around her.

Thank you, Jo. You will truly be missed.

Support is available. You are not alone.

Kinver Edge and Wyre Forest are beautiful walks! Lots of greenery, shady forests, beautiful views and to top it all off, we expect glorious weather.

Do something special on Saturday 20th June - explore the forest, enjoy views of the British countryside and help local young people at risk of homelessness.

Learn about our Hike! FAQ time:

- Sign up with teams of 3 - 6 people (the more the merrier) across a single or multiple teams.

- The short route is designed for starters, around 2/3 hours.
The medium route should be an easy challenge for the fit, taking around 5/6 hours. The long route can be tough, and you’ll need to be relatively fit to achieve this, taking around 10/11 hours.

- Check point paradise! Each check point has toilets and free refreshments for your comfort, chaperoned by our friendly marshals.

- Dog friendly and child friendly - we advise taking the short route with children.

- Each £16 raised at the event pays for a night's accommodation for a young person. We home 600 young people on average every single night. Can you get to a week (£112), a month (£480), or a year (£5,840)? Every £1 helps local young people at risk of homelessness.

- Once your fundraising page is automatically set up for you, we will give you tips, tricks, and we’ll even have someone on hand to be on your side and answer any queries, every step of the way.

We are proud to host a talk today on the 10 year impact of Live and Work - an innovative housing model designed specifically for young people aged 18–25 who are working or completing an apprenticeship.

It offers safe, affordable accommodation with rents kept well below market levels, giving young people the chance to build stability, save money and plan for the future. To live AND work.

And now, ten years on, an independent evaluation by the Centre for the New Midlands has revealed the true impact of that investment.

Key findings:

🏠 £7.97 of social and economic value created for every £1 invested
🏠 236 young people supported over the last ten years
🏠 Affordable housing helps young people stay in work
🏠 Young people without family support face the biggest barriers
🏠 Stable housing and employment are closely connected
🏠 The Live and Work model can be expanded to support more young people

We welcome all to read the key findings and full report below:
https://stbasils.org.uk/the-live-and-work-report-2026/

And a huge thanks to all of our passionate attendees and partners.
