🚨 KENT'S MOAT PARK BENCHES UPDATE - ACTION BEING TAKEN 🚨

Earlier this week, residents contacted me after discovering that three benches had been pulled out and removed from their original locations within Kent's Moat Park, while a fourth bench had been left unsecured and unscrewed.

Following concerns raised by local residents, I immediately contacted the Parks Authority and requested that this matter be investigated as a priority.

I am pleased to confirm that the three missing benches have now been located elsewhere within the park, hidden amongst the trees. The Parks Authority is fully aware of the situation and has advised that, where possible, the benches will be returned to their original locations and properly secured. If this cannot be completed immediately, the work is expected to be carried out over the next few days.

This kind of vandalism and damage to community facilities is completely unacceptable. These benches are there for everyone to enjoy, particularly older residents, families, and those who wish to sit and enjoy Kent's Moat Park. A small number of individuals should not be allowed to damage facilities that belong to the whole community.

I have asked that every effort is made to identify those responsible, and I fully support appropriate enforcement action against anyone found to have carried out this damage. Public spaces belong to our community, and those who deliberately damage them should be held accountable for their actions.

If you witnessed anything suspicious, saw anyone moving the benches, or have CCTV, doorbell camera, dashcam footage, or any information that could assist in identifying those responsible, please get in touch with me or report it to the relevant authorities.

No matter how small the information may seem, it could help identify those involved and prevent further incidents of vandalism in Kent's Moat Park.

Thank you to everyone who reported this issue so quickly. I will continue to keep residents updated and work with the Parks Authority to ensure these benches are returned and secured as soon as possible.

🚫 TAKING ACTION ON FLY-TIPPING AND ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR IN GARRETTS GREEN

Following concerns raised by residents, I have been leading efforts to address a number of ongoing environmental and anti-social behaviour issues across Garretts Green.

One of the priorities I have been pursuing is the persistent fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour around The Lea and the garage site off Kelynmead Road. After raising these issues directly with the relevant council departments and pushing for action, measures are now being put in place to improve site security, remove waste and help prevent further incidents.

As your local Councillor, I believe that when residents bring concerns to me, it is my responsibility to take them up, challenge those responsible and ensure action follows.

I have raised these issues, secured commitments for action and will continue to monitor progress closely. I will not simply report problems. I will keep pressing for solutions until improvements are delivered on the ground.

🏡 SHELDON HEATH COMMUNITY CENTRE SAVED FOLLOWING LOCAL LABOUR TEAM'S CAMPAIGN 🏡

I am proud to have led the campaign to save Sheldon Heath Community Centre from closure, working alongside Liam Byrne MP and local residents to secure its future.

From the outset, I made it clear that losing this vital community asset was simply not an option. Community centres are at the heart of our neighbourhoods, providing support, opportunities and a place for people to come together. That is why I fought to ensure this facility remained open for local people.

I am especially pleased that Oasis Hub Blakenhale will now take on the running of the centre. Having worked alongside Oasis for many years, I have seen first-hand the outstanding work they do and the positive impact they have on local people, families and young people across our community.

Their track record speaks for itself, and I have absolute confidence that Oasis will not only safeguard the future of Sheldon Heath Community Centre but help it flourish. This is about far more than keeping a building open. It is about securing a strong, sustainable future for a valued community hub that will continue serving local residents for generations to come.

This is a huge victory for our community and demonstrates what can be achieved when local people and local representatives stand together to protect the services that matter most.

🌳 Listening to Residents and Delivering Improvements 🌳

Following concerns raised by local residents, I recently carried out a walkabout along Church Road between Midway and Lea Hall Road, as well as Garretts Green Roundabout, to inspect a number of maintenance issues that require attention.

I firmly believe the best way to understand local concerns is to get out into the community, speak directly with residents and see issues first-hand. That's exactly what we did.

I am pleased to report that the maintenance works identified during the visit have now been added to the programme of works to be carried out. This is positive news for local residents and a great example of what can be achieved when we work together to improve our neighbourhood.

A special thank you to Kevin Gibbons from Kier for taking the time to join me on this walkabout, assess the issues on site and help move these important matters forward. Your support and cooperation are greatly appreciated.

🌳 RADLEYS PARK UPDATE 🌳

I recently visited Radleys Park following the departure of the travellers and was pleased to see that the majority of the waste left behind has now been cleared. I also identified a small amount of remaining litter, which I have reported to the Parks team for attention.

I was pleased to see that the gate access from Sheldon Heath Road has been repaired, and I will continue working with the Parks Authority to explore further measures to help secure the park and prevent future unauthorised encampments.

🙏 A special thank you to all the residents who kept in touch with me throughout this matter.

Your phone calls, emails, photographs and updates provided valuable information that helped me raise concerns with the relevant authorities and push for action. Your support and patience have been greatly appreciated.

😊 It was also wonderful to see so many young people, families and local residents back enjoying the park during my visit. I had the opportunity to speak with several park users, and they were delighted to see the improvements made and to have this valued community space available for everyone to enjoy once again.

Radleys Park is a fantastic community asset, providing green space, play facilities and opportunities for families and residents to enjoy the outdoors. I will continue working with residents and partner agencies to help keep it clean, safe and welcoming for everyone.
