Residents and students across Royal Sutton Coldfield are invited to capture this year's theme 'HOME' through their lens – whether it’s a local landmark, a sunlit corner of your local park, a bustling high street, a quiet moment with family or everyday moments of community life.

Prizes of £100, £50 and £25 One4all Gift Cards are up for grabs in each of the two age categories (13–17 and 18+).

We’re inviting residents, students, and pupils aged 13+ to share their favourite views, community moments, and everyday scenes of Sutton Coldfield that capture what 'HOME' means to you in the Royal Town.

📸 The Soul of Sutton Photography Competition is back for 2026!

To mark World Photography Day, Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council is inviting residents, pupils and students of the Royal Town to pick up a camera and show us what 'HOME' means to you. It could be a favourite park, a treasured local landmark, a family tradition, or just an everyday moment that feels like home.

The competition is free to enter and open to two age categories: 13–17 years and 18 years and over.

You can submit up to five photographs, and prizes of £100, £50, and £25 One4all Gift Cards are up for grabs in each category.

Entries close at 12 noon on Wednesday, 9 September 2026.

Following huge interest and some fantastic entries received over the last two years, Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council is once again bringing back the Soul of Sutton Photography Competition, which celebrates life in the Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield.

As National Allotments Week 2026 comes to a close, we've shone a light on all 10 of the Royal Sutton Coldfield's allotment sites – five already under Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council stewardship and five more due to transfer in the near future – each offering its own character, community and chance to “Grow To Learn”.

From peaceful spaces for relaxation to productive gardens full of fresh fruit and vegetables, Royal Sutton Coldfield's allotments play an important role in improving wellbeing, supporting biodiversity and bringing neighbours together.

Thank you to every Allotment Association volunteer and plot holder who make these spaces special.

Today's spotlight falls on Sunnybank Fields Allotments and White Farm Allotments, two cherished green spaces in Royal Sutton Coldfield that offer residents the chance to enjoy the many rewards of allotment gardening.

Sunnybank Fields Allotments is a Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council site with a community gazebo and a wide range of plot holders. It is a friendly community where gardeners share advice, exchange ideas, and support one another. The site also plays an important role in encouraging biodiversity, with flowers, insects, birds and other wildlife thriving alongside productive plots, creating a healthy and sustainable environment for all to enjoy.

Soon to be transferred to the Town Council’s stewardship, White Farm Allotments, with 27 plots, is a smaller site tucked between White Farm and Clarence Roads. The plot holders on this site are supported by a friendly community that shares knowledge, encourages sustainable gardening practices, and helps create a welcoming atmosphere for both new and experienced gardeners. Alongside productive plots, the site provides important habitats for birds, bees and other wildlife, demonstrating the valuable role allotments play in protecting biodiversity and enhancing the local environment.

Growing your own food is not just rewarding — it is also a fantastic way to reduce food miles and support a greener future: small plots, big impact.

Today the Mayor will celebrate the 80th Anniversary of India's Independence attending events across the Royal Town and Birmingham.

Today we're celebrating Donegal Road Allotments alongside Newhall Allotments, two of Royal Sutton Coldfield's largest allotment sites that provide residents with the opportunity to grow their own fruit, vegetables and flowers.

Donegal Road Allotments, under the remit of the Town Council, has 80 plots and an on-site social pavilion. With good on-site facilities and a welcoming community of plot holders, the site offers something for gardeners of all ages and experience levels. The Association hosts open days and welcomes growers of all experience levels.

Coming under local stewardship soon, Newhall Allotments is set at the northern end of the beautiful Newhall Valley Country Park, and is one of Sutton Coldfield's largest sites, with over 100 plots of varying sizes cared for by enthusiastic gardeners of all ages and experience. The site is home to a community orchard, wildlife habitats, bird boxes, beehives, and even a nature trail that links to the surrounding valley, making it a haven for both people and nature. Recent community projects include a new eco toilet, and the association runs an annual show.

The post features some of the Newhall plot holders making the most of their plots, growing a variety of fruits and vegetables, and, in one case, animals (People are allowed to keep chickens and bees on their plots if they wish). This includes,
- Joe, who grows heritage tomatoes and grapes in his polytunnel.
- Stephanie Hall, tending to her apples and sweetcorn.
- Adrian Lanchester, picking his runner beans (still has some runner beans in the freezer from last year).
- Chris Partridge, tending to his chickens.

Allotments are hubs of wellbeing and environmental awareness – exactly what the National Allotment Society's National Allotments Week is all about.
