Proud to share that Birmingham has once again been recognised as a Tree City of the World — celebrating our commitment to protecting, growing, and championing our urban forest.
This recognition reflects the hard work of local communities, volunteers, and teams across the city who are helping to create greener streets, healthier neighbourhoods, and a more climate‑resilient Birmingham.

🌿 Join Birmingham’s Ranger Service – We’re Recruiting! 🌿
Do you have a passion for working with communities and helping people connect with nature?
Birmingham’s Ranger Service plays a vital role in caring for and championing conservation across the city’s parks, open spaces and nature reserves. As the UK’s first accredited Nature City, Birmingham is delivering its ambitious City of Nature 25-Year Plan, and our Parks and Greenspace Service is entering an exciting period of transformation and growth.
Working at the heart of our communities, our Rangers help protect, enhance and bring Birmingham’s natural spaces to life for residents and visitors alike.
We’re currently recruiting for several roles to strengthen our fantastic Ranger team:

We’re settling in at Lickey Hills 🌿
The van is open this weekend, when coffee will be on and in just 4 weeks our main café will be opening right here in the park.
This one’s for walkers, families, dogs and everyone who loves great coffee in the great outdoors.

RADAR Lock Kissing Gates – Please Lock After Use 🔐

You may have noticed the RADAR Lock Kissing Gates that are being installed around the periphery of the park. These gates are designed to improve access for disabled users and people with pushchairs, whilst helping to secure the site.

Entrances to paths that are designated for the use of bicycles will have a Motorbike Inhibitor (squeeze barrier) installed alongside the kissing gate. Cyclists must dismount and walk their bicycles through this barrier before continuing. Disabled cyclists are able to use the kissing gate, to gain access.

How to use the RADAR Lock Kissing Gates:

1. The gates can be fully opened using an official RADAR key, issued to people who require accessible access.
2. Once opened, please pass through carefully, allow the gate to close fully behind you, and re-lock it immediately.

Why locking the gate matters:

Locking the gate after each use helps prevent unauthorised vehicle access, which can damage paths, grassland, and wildlife habitats. It also helps keep livestock safe and maintains the park as a safe, peaceful space for everyone.

Leaving gates unlocked can undo the balance between accessibility and protection that these gates are designed to provide. Thank you 💚
