BLACKPOOLS DEBT AND LGR

Nobody disputes that Blackpool needs regeneration, new housing and a stronger visitor economy. The question is whether Labour has borrowed wisely, whether every project is delivering the return promised, and whether the Council can afford the ongoing costs while protecting frontline services.

Assets on a balance sheet are not the same as cash available to pay interest, maintain buildings or fund social care. A council can own valuable property and still face serious financial pressure if income is insufficient or costs rise.

If Labour is confident in its investment record, it should publish a straightforward schedule showing each major borrowing-funded project, its original business case, total cost, outstanding debt, annual financing cost, actual net income and forecast return.

Blackpool residents deserve regeneration—but also transparency, affordability and reassurance that the burden will not be shifted onto taxpayers across any future local-government reorganisation.

I have offered to work with Andy Burnham to fix the welfare system.

He still hasn’t replied to my letter.

Only the Conservatives have a credible and thought-through plan to cut spending by tens of billions.

“Different homes for different people.”

That’s what Labour’s Deputy Leader Cllr Neal Brookes said at the Full Council meeting last month when asked about the Central Drive regeneration. Not “homes for the people who live there now.”

Meanwhile, Cllr Lynn Williams tells the press this is about “the people of central Blackpool” deserving quality housing.

So which is it?

Because the 300 families who call the streets of Revoe home haven’t been given any guarantee they can return. No right to return written into the planning application. No social rent guarantee in the developer agreement.

Just a £90.4m Homes England grant — secured by the previous Conservative government — being spent by a Labour council to demolish more homes than they’re building (300 down, 230 up = net loss of 70 homes in a housing crisis).

And if you don’t want to sell? They’re preparing Compulsory Purchase Orders.

This isn’t regeneration. It’s replacement.

Blackpool South Conservative Association is backing residents, not developers. Because “different homes for different people” means you’re not the people they’re building for.

Too often, police are handed clear leads and fail to follow them up.

That must change. Crime must have consequences.

Another day. Another consequence of Labour's war on Oil and Gas.

BP exiting the North Sea after 60 years is yet another warning that Labour is turning one of Britain's greatest industries into managed decline.

Last month’s by-election in Aberdeen was a referendum on oil and gas. People voted Conservative because they want to protect the jobs, skills and investment that keep energy bills down and power our economy.

Only the Conservatives have a plan to turn this around, and deliver cheap energy for people across our country. We would immediately approve drilling in the Jackdaw and Rosebank oil fields, end the ban on new drilling licences, scrap the Energy Profits Levy and Get Britain Drilling again.
