♻️🌹 In preparation for the Government’s new Simpler Recycling legislation, Blackpool is set to trial a new waste collection system designed to make recycling easier and more accessible for residents. The bin hubs will replace the current red sack collection system and support the upcoming national requirement for separate food waste collections, which becomes mandatory in April 2026. Currently around 13,000 properties use red sacks for their weekly waste collection.
Cllr Jane Hugo, Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Climate Change: “The introduction of hubs will mean that residents no longer have to wait until a set collection day to dispose of their waste. Also, for the first time they will be able to recycle which we know many residents have been asking for. This initial trial is in eight locations. After these hubs have been operational for a few months we will speak to residents about their experiences before rolling the initiative out across the whole town.” 💚⚘️
