It has been a little while since Bolton Film Office launched back in October, so for those who don’t know us, we thought we’d do a little introduction to who is behind Bolton Film Office!

Meet Fiona, Chris, Steve and Julian 😊

With a combined 85 years serving Bolton Council, we’ve got a pretty good grip on how to get things done and support your production.

Ps. Sorry to disappoint if you thought we were starting some sort of new soft rock revival group… there’s time yet 🤘.

Who is excited about the Men’s World Cup starting this Thursday 11th June? We can feel the buzz growing here in Bolton!

While some of you were queuing for your lunchtime pasty, you may have seen some familiar faces filming in Bolton recently – we had the pleasure of having football legends Roy Keane and Micah Richards filming their latest advert right here in Bolton ahead of the World Cup. You may recognise some familiar Bolton landmarks, including Ye Olde Man & Scythe, The Wellsprings, and Market Place, Bolton

There will be temporary changes to licencing regulations during the World Cup, which will have a huge impact on Bolton’s night time economy, particularly for popular venues along Churchgate, where the advert was filmed.

Bolton Film Office celebrates months of success!

Since the launch of Bolton Film Office in October 2025 to the end of April 2026, there have been 27 different productions using Bolton as a filming location; ranging from student films and short films, to high-end TV dramas filming throughout the borough.

The film office has been busy working to promote Bolton as a filming-friendly destination, by attending and sponsoring key industry events, as well as local outreach to businesses, schools, colleges, and the university. During the 2025-2026 financial year, filming contributed an estimated £1.2million to the local economy, including employment, businesses, retail, and supply chains.

Bolton has earned the nickname "Hollywood of the North", appearing in productions such as It's a Sin, Brassic, Coronation Street, Peaky Blinders, Ridley, Sherwood, and a Gentleman in Moscow, and has featured on all the major broadcasters and platforms.

**LOCATION(S) OF THE MONTH**

In the spirit of the upcoming IRONMAN Weekend, this Friday 5th – 7th June, we’re shining a light on the areas the courses pass through.

🌜Friday 5th June – NIGHT RUN Bolton UK
👩‍👧‍👦Saturday 6th June – IRONKIDS Bolton

Both the NIGHT RUN Bolton UK and IRONKIDS Bolton start and end in Bolton town centre. The NIGHT RUN course takes you towards Queen’s Park and back. Being a night run, the event starts at 7pm, and provides an lovely opportunity to view this part of town as the sun is starting to go down. IRONKIDS Bolton is a gentle course around the town centre, for children aged 3-15yrs old, and course length ranging from 500m – 1.5km.

💪THE MAIN EVENT – IRONMAN Bolton - Sunday 7th June

The event starts at Pennington Flash Country Park in our neighbouring town of Leigh, Wigan, where the swimming element of the course takes place.

Pennington Flash is part of the only National Nature Reserve in the whole of Greater Manchester and is a popular filming site; so if you’re interested in filming at this beautiful nature reserve, please contact our good friends over at Wigan Council.

The second part of the course is the cycle element, which passes by historical Westhoughton before heading through Horwich, back down Chorley New Road to the Queen’s Park.

And the final element of the course, which runs (pun definitely intended) through the scenic Queen’s Park, onto Chorley New Road and back, before reaching the iconic IRONMAN 70.3 finish line in front of our stunning Bolton Town Hall.

For the lucky athletes taking part, they will get a delightful scenic tour of Bolton!

Screen Tourism, or ‘Set-Jetting’ is the term coined for visiting real-world locations which feature in films, tv, video games and other media content.

Finding out more about our favourite Film and TV shows are powerful motivators for travel - the effects of this phenomena supports the local economy, and connects visitors to local heritage sites.

According to Visit Britain , 9 in 10 potential visitors to the UK are keen to visit a film or TV location during their trip, and in doing so may also then visit other nearby local attractions.

We’re proud to support screen tourism and its wider effects here in Bolton, that’s why you will find us in the latest copy of the Starring GREAT Britain magazine; available in digital and print, it invites you to Visit Bolton and explore!
