🚧 £6.5 MILLION FOR BOLTON’S ROADS – INCLUDING TWO IN TONGE WITH THE HAULGH

Some really good news for our ward.

Greater Manchester’s Labour Mayor, Bev Craig, has announced £60 million of investment in roads and pavements across Greater Manchester, with £6.552 million coming to Bolton

Here in Tonge with the Haulgh, during the 2026/2027 Council year that includes:

➡️ Firwood Lane – Tonge Moor Road to Street End
➡️ George Barton Street – Leslie Street to Entwistle Street

Emily Mort and I regularly raise highways issues on behalf of residents, and local Labour councillors have continued to lobby for investment in our roads.

This is what having **Labour councillors making the case locally and a Labour Mayor investing in our communities** can deliver.

There’s always more to do, and we’ll keep pushing for improvements across the ward, but this is very welcome news for residents.

🌄🕐 Please don’t get caught out by the earlier bin collections this week

To help protect Bolton’s waste and recycling teams during the extreme heat, collections will begin earlier than usual from Tuesday 23 June to Friday 26 June, with crews starting from 6am.

Please put your bins out the night before your usual collection day, or make sure they are ready and accessible by 6am at the latest.

This temporary change will allow crews to carry out more of their work during the cooler part of the day, reducing the risks posed by the high temperatures.

Please share this post and help make sure your friends, family and neighbours know about the change.

Whilst there are no road closures within Tonge with the Haulgh directly routes into and out of the town centre will be affected.

Please see below the map highlighting these closures.

You can also Scan the QR Code which contains a Live Google Map to keep you up to date.

Please check before you travel between 5th and 7th June and factor in additional time for any journeys, particularly important if you are travelling by Bus as many routes will include diversions.

Was a pleasure to host our May, Labour and Co-operative Councillor Ward surgery at Trinity Methodist Church Tonge Fold this morning.

Casework covered included assistance with a business rates query for a charitable organisation, advocating for a resident who is experiencing problems with their health and making sure they have access to the right services.

It was lovely to see the church hall buzzing as they also had their coffee morning which is the 2nd Saturday of the month, there was a great sense of community and plenty of great company.

Our next Visit to Trinity Methodist will be Saturday 11th July 2026

Our Next Surgery is 6pm Wednesday 27th May at The Ukrainian Centre, 99 Castle Street, Bolton, BL2 1JP

And our June Surgery will be Saturday 6th June at St Augustine's, Tonge Moor at 11:30am.
