Participate projects

Participate projects We offer a wide range of services that support and connect businesses, social ventures, charities and communities.

Our mission is to create the environment in which the great social ideas of individuals
and organisations can grow, flourish and create lasting change; we do this through
coaching, helping people to focus on solutions to their challenges -
Our usual activities include:

Social Venture Support - We support people of all ages to develop ideas, helping new
and existing charities, projects, schools, c

ommunity groups, individuals, and social
enterprises to start and grow. We specifically work with people living in deprived areas or who have other barriers. As part of this we also train coaches from other
organisations in community based enterprise coaching. Business Volunteering - We engage businesses to share resources, skills and time to
help develop and grow community led ideas that deliver social good, increase
opportunity and reducing inequality. Third Sector Assessment, Grant Delivery and Research. We work alongside regional
and national organisations to asses community projects, administer grants and conduct sector research. Youth Ventures - The Venturists is our youth engagement programme that gives young people the opportunity to start viable social action programmes. We specifically work in schools and communities with high levels of deprivation; using a framework that inspires young people to take action on the issues that affect them and their immediate community.

It's Volunteers' Week! 🥳

As the Corporate Engagement Partner of Bradford City of Culture 2025, Participate Projects enabled 1,206 volunteers to give 7,799 hours of their time to build community gardens, transform tired cafe spaces, and give a lick of paint to venues across the district last year.

Volunteering can mean so many things, from offering a day to paint your local community centre, to reading with children, or chairing a board of trustees.

Paris Daniel is one of Participate Projects' trustees, volunteering her time to help shape the policy and direction of the organisation.

💬 “I'd say the greatest skill volunteering has given me is strategic thinking", says Paris. "Serving on the board of Participate Projects has helped me see the bigger picture, contribute to key decisions, and work collaboratively with others to support the charity's goals. Through skilled volunteering, I've also learned how to apply my expertise in ways that create real impact”.

While giving is a huge part of volunteering, there's so much you can take from the experience. For Paris, that's been improving her approach to strategic thinking and planning.

"This is one of the best projects I have been involved in. It has changed the lives of our children, helped them aim high and encouraged them to achieve their dreams." 💬 Headteacher, welcoming The Venturists.

We believe it’s incredibly important to raise the aspirations of young people at the earliest opportunity; to inspire them about the possibilities of positive action for the environment and provide rich, life changing education experiences that stay with them for life. This is your chance to help us achieve that.

Your donation to The Venturists is worth three times as much this month! 💰

Thanks to the Aviva Community Fund and British Airways Better World Community Fund, your donation is about to go three times as far. Make a contribution towards The Venturists programme and your donation will be matched by Aviva and British Airways.

💬 “I knew volunteering to help the Venturists would be rewarding - how can it not be when you are there to help support children? What surprised me however, was how emotionally invested I would become in the kid’s growth. The experience challenged me to adapt my communication skills to each child’s unique needs, something that mirrors everyday life but feels more pronounced in that setting. It also made me reflect on how my time is most effectively used and who needs support most. Ultimately, the growth I witnessed in both the children and myself, benefits the wider community and opens our awareness of how our actions have broader impacts.”

Not all corporate volunteering involves a toolbox. 🧰 In total, 271 volunteers provided 1,086 hours of skilled support to organisations delivering culture and heritage across Bradford last year. 💼

Alongside our team days, business volunteers also supported culture and heritage organisations with specialist skills - the kind that usually sit out of reach for smaller community groups.

Through our skilled volunteering programme, organisations received help in four main areas:
📣 Marketing: building strategies and content to reach new audiences.
💰 Financial management: setting up systems and improving confidence with the numbers.
👥 Human resources: guidance on people policies and good practice.
⚖️ Legal and technical advice: pro bono legal and architectural support.

This was part of the Bradford City of Culture 2025 Corporate Volunteering Partnership, delivered by Participate Projects.
