Message from the clerk: Alveley and Romsley Parish Council are pleased to announce that after a long wait the footway and car park surfaces outside the shops in Cook's Cross are going to be resurfaced. The Council has been pushing Shropshire Council to prioritise this work for some years. The Parish Council are funding the resurfacing of the footway and Shropshire will deal with the car park. This collaborative project will start on 22nd June, supervised by Shropshire using their main contractor Multiveo. The local shop owners have been fully consulted and bollards will be erected to stop the pavement parking which has caused so much damage over the years to the footway.

The Parish Council has accumulated reserves over the years to fund projects like this and more community improvement projects are in the pipeline for later this year.

Members of the public who wish to attend parish council meetings to find out more or to contribute ideas are welcome to attend. Meeting dates are on the noticeboards by the school, the top of Daddelbrook Road near the war memorial, Tuckhill village hall, Six Ashes and in Romsley Lane.

Message from the clerk regarding play area - "The zip wire has been removed for safety because some of the supporting timber is rotting. This may require a reconstruction or replacement with an alternative piece of equipment and the parish council is reviewing its options to get best value for money for the community."

The next meeting of Alveley and Romsley Parish Council, the councils annual meeting, will take place on Tuesday 12th May 2026 at 7:30pm at The Pavilion.

As usual, the meeting will begin with Open Forum, giving members of the public the opportunity to raise any local issues or concerns.

🌿 From Awareness to Action: Environment, Biodiversity & Nature Recovery

We were proud to be part of the team supporting the recent screening of The People’s Emergency Briefing in the parish.

A big thank you to everyone who helped organise and deliver the event from those working behind the scenes to the groups and individuals who contributed on the night. It was a real collaborative effort and a great example of the community coming together.

Around 50 people attended, coming together to watch the film and take part in a short discussion afterwards. The film brought together the latest evidence on the climate and nature crisis and, importantly, what it means for everyday life here in the UK.

What made the evening particularly powerful was connecting those national messages with what’s already happening locally. We heard from a number of groups including our own Local Nature Recovery Working Group, highlighting the positive action already underway and the real opportunity to build on this across our community.

Nature recovery isn’t just about big national strategies, it’s about local knowledge, local action and local people. We are incredibly fortunate to live in an area rich in natural assets, and the focus now is how we strengthen, connect and enhance these for the future.

🌿 Get involved
Our next Local Nature Recovery Working Group meeting will take place on 1st July 2026 (evening) exact time and venue to be confirmed. The group is open to anyone with an interest in the environment whether you’re part of a local organisation or simply want to get involved in shaping what happens locally.

This follows on from both the film screening and our own themed pre-event ahead of the Annual Parish Meeting, where a range of organisations including the National Trust, Severn Valley Country Park, Severn Trent’s Community Flood Team, Sustainable Bridgnorth and others came together in a “marketplace” setting to share the work already happening across the area.

These events are all part of a growing effort to turn awareness into practical, local action. If you’d like to be involved or find out more, we’d love to hear from you.

Have your say on policing

Got a spare few minutes? Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion has launched a short consultation to give you an opportunity to have your say on the Government’s proposals to create 12 ‘mega police forces’.

As this could be the biggest shake up to policing in six decades, the PCC wants to make sure you can share your views on this change. He will share the public response directly with the Government to consider in their review.

🌿 Thank You 🌿

A big thank you to everyone who came along to last night’s community event and Annual Parish Meeting, and to all the organisations and groups who contributed to the evening.

It was great to see people taking the time to chat, ask questions and find out more about what’s happening locally, particularly around biodiversity, the environment and nature recovery.

We’ve already received some really positive feedback and it was encouraging to see such good engagement throughout the evening.

Thank you again to everyone involved in making it such a positive event for our community.

Our Annual Parish Meeting kicks off this evening but before that we’re hosting a special community event (6–7pm) focused on biodiversity, the environment and nature recovery. This is a fantastic opportunity to find out what’s happening locally and how you can get involved.

We’re really pleased to be joined by a great range of organisations and local experts, including:

It’s an informal, drop-in “marketplace” style event – come along, have a chat, ask questions and explore what’s happening across the parish. ☕ Free tea, coffee and biscuits available.
