After his summer moult, a adult male kingfisher has officially claimed the reflection pool and wildlife pond. He has a regular early-morning patrol over the pool to watch his the sticklebacks, and he’s already executed his first test dives! As temperatures drop, his visits will increase into a highly predictable, daily feeding routine.

To give him maximum privacy to lock in this routine, September spaces are strictly limited to single photographers and small groups for the highest chance of success. Please get in contact first before making bookings.

After a quiet spell through the summer, I’m absolutely delighted to say the male Kingfisher is back using the hide setup regularly.

Over the last couple of weeks he’s been visiting the lake, reflection pool and bulrushes, with recent sessions producing visits, plenty of perching and some test diving.

These are a couple of images from my own session yesterday morning.

Today’s client had an amazing session, with the male Kingfisher showing really well around the pond and reflection pool. He spent around 10 minutes with them, using the perches, sitting amongst the bulrushes and even diving for fish!

After the quieter spell we’ve had, seeing him back yesterday for around 30 minutes and then returning again today is incredibly exciting. It really feels like he is claiming the hide setup as part of his regular territory now.

Most importantly, my client was absolutely delighted with their experience and came away really pleased with the photographs they managed to get.

Today’s client had an amazing session, with the male Kingfisher showing really well around the pond and reflection pool. He spent around 10 minutes with them, using the perches, sitting amongst the bulrushes and even diving for fish!

There’s something special about watching a wild Barn Owl silently working its way across the field, completely focused on the ground below.

The six owlets are continuing to do really well. Five are now spending plenty of time outside the nest box, exploring the nearby trees, practising their flying and gradually becoming more confident each day, while the youngest is still making regular appearances and catching up nicely.

Seeing them develop from tiny chicks into young owls finding their wings has been an incredible experience, and it’s all happening because they chose to make this field their home.

Hopefully there’ll be plenty more moments like this to come over the next few weeks.

This image was taken under a near full moon last night, adding to the atmosphere of watching these incredible birds as the night unfolds.

5 of the 6 chicks were out of the box exploring, with the youngest still staying close and building confidence before joining them.

Over the last few weeks it has been amazing watching this family grow — from tiny chicks appearing at the entrance, to spending their evenings on the tray, climbing into the tree and now starting to explore the wider area.

What makes this so special is seeing a wild barn owl family choose to use the habitat around them in their own way. The perches, trees and grassland have become part of their world, and watching their natural behaviour develop has been incredible.

The next stage begins now as these youngsters find their wings and discover more of the field around them.

Another amazing update from the barn owl family 🦉😁

The adults are still out hunting and this photo shows just how incredible these birds are in their natural environment.

The chicks have now really started to change. The eldest ones are spending time out in the tree, exploring, climbing and taking short flights, while the younger ones are now following along and becoming more confident on the tray.

It’s been brilliant watching them adapt, especially with the recent hot weather. They’ve naturally been using the shaded areas, resting when it’s warm and becoming more active as the evenings cool down.

It turns out that we have at least FOUR chicks that were out on the tray overnight and two of them were even tucking into their own voles.

The confidence is growing every night now. The eldest chick has started taking short flights, exploring away from the box and then returning back like it’s completely normal.

It’s incredible to watch this all unfold, especially knowing these are completely wild barn owls living naturally in the habitat I’ve created for them.

No baiting, no forced behaviour, just a wild family choosing to use the nest box, the field and the surroundings exactly as nature intended.

Watching them go from their first little peeks out of the entrance, to sitting on the tray, feeding outside and now taking those first flights has been amazing.

The parents are still working hard bringing food in and the chicks are becoming more independent every night.

The barn owl youngsters are getting braver by the day.

Overnight there were two chicks out on the tray together, looking around and becoming more confident with the outside world. Then mum arrived with another vole delivery… but the welcome she got wasn’t quite what she expected. One of the chicks decided it was easier to just take the vole straight from her beak! The poor adult had barely landed before the youngsters were already causing chaos. It’s amazing watching the change happen. From tiny chicks hidden away in the box to now standing on the tray, competing for food and learning how to be barn owls.

The adults have done an incredible job raising them, with countless vole deliveries bringing them to this stage.

The barn owl chicks are starting to show themselves more and more now.

After weeks of watching the adults bring in vole after vole, the chicks are finally getting brave enough to start appearing at the entrance hole and stepping out onto the tray.

They’re spending more time looking around, watching the world outside and getting used to their surroundings. I even think I’ve spotted a male and female now.

The adults are still doing an amazing job, with another 14 field voles delivered overnight after an incredible 32 the night before!

It won’t be long before these little ones are fully exploring the outside world… such an incredible thing to witness from a box I installed and monitored from the start.
