Today, we remember Firefighter Fleur Lombard QGM, who was killed in the line of duty 30 years ago. Fleur was just 21 years old when she died while fighting a serious fire at a supermarket in Staple Hill.

Her incredible bravery was recognised with the Queen’s Gallantry Medal and the Chief Fire Officer’s Commendation. In 2024, her legacy was further honoured with the Elizabeth Emblem, presented by His Majesty The King.

This afternoon, our Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Matt Cook alongside Fleur's family, serving firefighters and retired colleagues will lay wreaths at Fleur’s memorial in her honour. At 1:04 pm, the rest of the Service will observe a minute of silence as a mark of respect. Fleur’s dedication continues to inspire us all.

Time to spot the odd one out 👀

Recently we swapped one of our old appliances with Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service . This has benefits for both services; they get a newer appliance that is more suitable for their needs in driver training, and we get an appliance that is more suitable for donating to our friends in Gambia.

Typically, our retiring trucks get sent to Gambia as part of GAFSIP, however an issue that has started to arise is the trucks we send are too new for the technology and resources available.

Avon Fire & Rescue Service Krazy Races

🔥We have been busy for the past 3 Months designing and creating a 'Soapbox', after our shifts to compete at this year’s Bristol Krazy Races Soapbox Race, on Sunday 7th September 2025 in Victoria Park, Bedminster.

🚒 The team started with a basic chassis, and have added axles, wheels, brakes, suspension, steering, and finally a Fire Engine inspired body to complete the look, which even features blue lights!

It is with great sadness that we have heard the tragic news from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, where two firefighters and a member of the public have lost their lives following a fire at a former RAF base in Oxfordshire.

Chief Fire Officer Matt Cook said: "The loss of any firefighter is felt deeply across our fire and rescue community. We stand in solidarity with our colleagues in Oxfordshire at this incredibly difficult time. On behalf of everyone at Avon Fire & Rescue Service, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the families, friends and crews who have been affected by this tragedy."

As a mark of respect, on 16 May all fire stations across Avon Fire & Rescue Service lowered their flags to half-mast at 12 noon followed by a two-minute silence in memory of those lost. This small but meaningful gesture is a symbol of solidarity with our colleagues in Oxfordshire and a tribute to those who have lost their lives.

📟 Fire Call Out 5/4/25 19:45📟

🚒 Last night the on-call technician mobilised to assist crews on the scene of a fire involving a large fire in avonmouth, by refuelling pumping appliances on the fire-ground.

🤝Thank you to our bordering services for standing by at Patchway, Yate, Bath, Bedminster and Chew Magna.

🚨We’re currently at the scene of a fire at a recycling centre on Poplar Way East, Avonmouth.

We have 16 fire engines in attendance.

We urge local people to avoid the area while we deal with the incident.

If you’re in the local area, please keep your windows and doors closed.

** Update at 20:38 hrs**

The incident has been largely scaled back with just four fire engines in attendance. Crews will continue to monitor the area for any possible hotspots and will reinspect throughout the night.

🌹 Today marks Remembrance Sunday, where we come together to remember those who have their lives protecting others, both in war and peace time.

🤫 Our staff will observe two minutes' silence at 11:00 at different parades or at station. Falling silent allows us to stand shoulder to shoulder with our colleagues, families and friends, and take time to reflect on the great sacrifice that was made during wartime.

🚒In honour of Remembrance events last year, we wrapped one of our fire engines with poppy artwork, designed by our staff.

📟 Fire Call Out 5/11/24 23:45📟

🚒 Last night the on-call technician mobilised at midnight to assist crews on the scene of a fire involving a large storage building in Worle, by refuelling pumping appliances on the fire-ground. Our technician was in attendance until 6am and more than earned his tea the next day ☕️

🔥 8 appliances, alongside a turntable ladder, a command support unit, our High Volume Pumps, Hose Layer and our fuel bowser were in attendance before relief crews attended from 00:30 to relieve first crews.

🔥 A total of 15 appliances, a turntable ladder, command support unit, HVP + DHB, welfare unit, fuel bowser attended this incident.
