London Fire Brigade Community Open Day at Bromley Fire Station brought the neighbourhood together on Saturday 6 June. The Deputy Mayor joined visitors, volunteers, cadets and local families as children and adults explored real fire‑fighting equipment up close — from fire engines to water hoses. A brilliant day celebrating community spirit and the incredible work of our firefighters. With thanks to London Fire Brigade

The Mayor is supporting 'Christmas Day' in the Epsom derby today, as a bet has been made on this horse in aid of the Mayor's charities.

This fulfils the wishes of a time capsule from 1964 found during regenerations works in Crystal Palace Park being delivered by Bromley Council and Crystal Palace Park Trust. The capsule provided winnings from a race where 'Santa Claus' won that year and a request to bet these on a horse associated with this at the next derby once found, which there just so happens to be this year!

Hopefully history will repeat itself and 'Christmas Day' can deliver a special present to support the Mayor's charities Madlani Cancer Support and The Dyslexia Association of Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich and Lewisham.

A busy few weeks for the new Mayor!

She’s been travelling across the Borough, attending the Cora Phillips Award Ceremony, cheering on her bowls team, joining the HMS Hood Commemorative Service, celebrating Annual Founders Day, and supporting the monthly Madlani Cancer Support coffee morning — one of her chosen charities.

She also gave heartfelt thanks to local volunteers at St Mary the Virgin, Hayes, before rounding off the week at the Orpington and Bromley District Sunday Football League, where she presented a cheque to Parkinson’s UK Bromley and District Branch.

An amazing start to her first weeks in office, with plenty of exciting engagements ahead.

New Mayor of Bromley appointed

Councillor Christine Harris is the new Mayor of Bromley, His Majesty the King’s representative for the borough, having been appointed at the council’s AGM last night (18 May 2026).

The new Mayor is the sixtieth Mayor appointed in Bromley’s history, which follows the sixtieth anniversary of the borough celebrated last year. Councillor Harris previously served as Deputy Mayor including during the Platinum Jubilee and King’s Coronation, attending over 200 street parties across the borough during these celebratory weekends.

The Mayor of Bromley, Councillor Christine Harris, said: “It is a huge privilege to serve as your new Mayor, as I know how special the borough is as a place to live, work and raise a family. I have seen countless examples of dedicated volunteers and local groups working hard to make Bromley an even more special place, including from my time as Deputy mayor. I now plan to play my part as your Mayor in supporting and championing these efforts, including from my two mayoral charities that do such important work locally. So please do get in touch if you are holding events as I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible throughout the year.”

Councillor Harris is a councillor in West Wickham Ward, having previously represented Kelsey and Eden Park Ward since 2018. She has lived in the borough for over 30 years and currently runs her own accountancy practice, while having also served as a school governor for 17 years and having been involved with local Friends of Parks groups and Park Langley Residents’ Association.

Two Mayoral charities have been chosen for 2026/27:

Madlani Cancer Support, who are based in and provide holistic support, community groups, and complementary therapies to those affected by cancer, including their families and loved ones. gives information to and help for parents, teachers, adults and interested professionals.
The Dyslexia Association of Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich and Lewisham, who give information and help to parents, teachers and professional relating to dyslexia, including with adult group meetings and a helpline service.
The new Mayor named Councillor Sunil Gupta, ward councillor for Bromley Common and Holwood ward, as her Deputy Mayor.

The Mayor has been fundraising throughout the last year for his two charities, CASPA and The Maypole Project, and was delighted to also join recently to wave off the dedicating participants in CASPA's four day running challenge - tackling an impressive 110km run or 90km walk.

As well as the excitement of congratulating the Bromley FC team for their incredible achievement of being promoted to League One, the Mayor and Mayoress also joined for a more relaxed morning with the club's Community Trust recently as they hosted their Ravens Chat, another valuable initiative helping to combat loneliness in our borough.

The Mayor, Mayoress, and Deputy Mayor have also been welcoming in the season at a number of May Queen events across the borough, with the Deputy Mayor joining in Orpington, including for the traditional maypole dance. MayQueen

The Broom Day parade, celebrating Bromley's namesake flower, was led along Bromley High Street by the Mayor and Mayoress this weekend, with plenty of exciting outfits on show in appreciation of local history.

Elsewhere this weekend, the Mayor also joined residents in coming together at Pratts Bottom Village Fete, before being back to the regular mayoral duty of handing out medals, this time to the worthy participants of the St Christopher's Hospice charity Fun Walk in Keston.

It was also a busy weekend for the Deputy Mayor, including celebrating with Bromley Scouts alongside Bromley FC, after the scouts exceeded their target of recruiting 60 volunteers for Bromley's 60th anniversary in the recruitment drive launched with the council last year.
