Arthur Brown RAF
Back in 2015, I was approached by the Bures British Legion to research all the names on the War Memorial, as the majority of their records had long since disappeared
The second name on the list was “A.C Brown” who I discovered was a Sergeant in the Royal Air Force and was Killed in Action flying over France
Arthur was only aged 21 when he lost his life in July 1944, he was buried with the other six flight crew of a Lancaster Bomber in (CWGC) Ellecourt Cemetery in Normandy.
He lived with his parents at Valley Green Farm ( the last property along Craigs Lane) in Mount Bures.
Arthur was not commemorated on the Mount Bures War Memorial, because at that time Valley Green Farm was located in the Parish of Bures Hamlet.
In all the years leading up to 2015, Arthur had totally been forgotten about until my research uncovered his brave work as a Bomb Aimer flying over occupied France.
In September 2019, I was instrumental in having a Plaque dedicated to Arthur in Mount Bures Parish Church, nearly 80 years after his death.

The third name of the War Memorial was K.P Carr, another young victim of the war aged 21 .
