Save Hammond Ground This page is for those in our community who wish to preserve the beautiful landscape known as Hammond Ground which forms part of Read Park in Lancashire.

A planning application has been submitted for the development of 50 new houses on Hammond Ground, Read. This is likely to be the first phase of a much larger development, which would change the whole character of Read & Simonstone villages. The villages do not have sufficient infrastructure to support this. The development will also destory an important Ribble Valley landscape.

Planning Update – Hammond Ground

The current planning application for the proposed Hammond Ground development is currently showing as INVALID on the Ribble Valley planning portal.

Unfortunately, it’s not withdrawn, it just means the council has requested further information or amendments before the application can formally proceed.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide further updates as soon as more information becomes available.

Local farmland supports food production, wildlife, biodiversity, and the rural character of our community.
Once it's lost to unsuitable development, it's gone forever.

Imagine this deer running through a housing estate?

Thriving countryside around every town, city and village isn’t a nice to have. It’s a necessity-for nature, for our climate and for our wellbeing.

We are aware that notice for a full planning application for 77 dwellings on Hammond Ground/Read Park has just been submitted. We expect the full details of the application to be published on Ribble Valley Council’s Planning pages in the next few days. https://webportal.ribblevalley.gov.uk/planningApplication/38441

We understand that many residents will feel strongly and may wish to object immediately. However, it is important that we take a short period to review the application in detail with our planning, landscape and heritage consultants so that any response is clear, evidence-based, and carries real weight in the planning process. It is likely you will have until early June to respond.

Planning decisions are not made on strength of feeling alone. They are determined against policy, technical evidence, and material considerations. Submitting well-informed, relevant objections gives us the best chance of influencing the outcome.

We will share a detailed update shortly, both on social media and as a paper-based door-drop, including key points to consider and guidance on how to submit effective representations.
Thank you for your patience and continued support.

Farmland should never be classified as grey belt. Developers are getting
'grey belt' housing developments approved on unspoilt farmland - instead of disused urban land. Please help defend our farms and food
