Solo Housing is offering FREE cleaning training through Solo Cleaning and Property Maintenance Services, helping people gain practical skills, build confidence, and prepare for employment.

This time, we're offering both face-to-face and online training options to help overcome any barriers for those who may not be able to attend in person.

We're planning to run face-to-face training sessions in Diss, Bury St Edmunds and Harleston, and once we have enough interest, we'll arrange the training dates.

🧡 Willow House is one of Solo Housing’s supported accommodation properties — a small, five-room scheme designed to offer stability, safety and the right level of support for people taking steps away from homelessness.

It may be small in size, but it plays an important role in helping customers rebuild confidence and independence, with time and tailored support built in.

What makes Willow House work so well is the combination of safe accommodation and dedicated support. Solo Housing staff are regularly on-site, providing consistent, person-centred support tailored to each customer's needs. Whether it's help with managing finances, maintaining routines, accessing services or building confidence and independence, staff are there to offer practical guidance every step of the way.

Just as important is the wider partnership approach. Across our work in East Anglia, we collaborate with a range of partner organisations to make sure support doesn’t stop at the front door. This joined-up approach helps bridge gaps for people who may not meet higher thresholds for other services, but still need structured help to move forward.

Willow House is a great example of what happens when housing, support and partnership working come together in a practical, person-centred way.

Our new ‘POINTERS’ are being rolled out to customers to make weekly smoke alarm testing easier, safer and a little more fun.

No standing on chairs, no awkward stretching – just extend, point, press, test and record it on the testing sheet provided.

Available in six cheerful colours, these little helping hands might raise a smile, but the job they do is seriously important.

💻✨ Behind every great service is a team that never stops learning.

Over the past two months, our Business Support Officer, Rebecca Young, has been leading an ongoing Digital Skills Programme across Solo Housing, helping colleagues build confidence with everything from information management and Microsoft 365 to internal systems, digital security and everyday digital problem-solving.

The programme was developed following a digital skills survey and colleague feedback, ensuring support is tailored to real needs rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

Alongside workshops, colleagues can access one-to-one coaching and flexible self-directed learning to help them develop at their own pace.

Why does this matter? Because stronger digital skills help us work more efficiently, manage information more effectively and ultimately provide a better service for our customers.

At Solo Housing, we're committed to continuous improvement – investing in our colleagues so we can continue supporting people facing homelessness across East Anglia with confidence, professionalism and care.

Did you know that Solo Cleaning and Property Maintenance Services 🧼 is one of SOLO Housing's social enterprises?

Supported by funding from The National Lottery Community Fund 🎟️, SOLO Cleaning provides training 🎓, qualifications and employment opportunities for people who have experienced homelessness 🏠 or housing instability 🏠. Through hands-on learning 🛠️ and dedicated support, we're helping people build confidence, develop new skills and move towards sustainable employment.

As part of our Fresh Foundations training 🎓, attendees recently learned about the importance of colour-coded cleaning systems 🧽 — a simple but essential professional standard that helps prevent cross-contamination and keeps environments hygienic and safe.

🟥 Red = Toilets & washrooms 🚻

🟨 Yellow = Sinks & bathroom surfaces 🚿

🟦 Blue = General areas including offices & living spaces 🏢

🟩 Green = Kitchens & food preparation areas 🍽️

Using the right cloths, buckets and cleaning products in the correct areas is a small detail that makes a BIG difference in professional cleaning standards ✨.
