Stop Reform and the Tories in the UK Parliament, Local Elections, the Senedd, and the Scottish Parliament.

A brilliant morning taking in Great Wilbraham in all its beauty in the spring sunshine as Labour candidates Tim Andrews, Angela Platt and Chris Bailey, together with Caitriona Bearryman and Elizabeth McWilliams spoke with the community about the local issues that are concerning them. Issues raised included pot holes, speeding, home schooling and a Great Wilbraham to Fulbourn cycleway.

22/04/2026

An informative evening discussing issues of concern with Fulbourn residents in the Cow Lane area. Residents told Labour’s Fen Ditton & Fulbourn candidates Angela Platt, Chris Bailey & Tim Andrews about various concerns, including the state of the roads, the proposed speed reduction measures on Cow Lane (that Tim persuaded GCP to remove), and a larger health centre in Fulbourn, something that we have been advocating for for some time.

On 7 May a new council will be elected in South Cambridgeshire District.

Your vote helps choose the councillor or councillors for your ward. It does not affect the results elsewhere in the District and it does not change who any of our MPs are.

Labour councillors would listen to local residents and push for fast and decisive action. Key parts of our action plan are:

Local Plan rules for 40% of affordable housing on new developments must be followed. Thousands of affordable homes have been lost as the Lib Dem council too easily gives in to ‘viability’ arguments from developers.
Infrastructure from the get-go in new developments. The Council needs to be much stronger in setting planning permission and making sure developers put in enough money to pay for it.
We’ll back Labour’s campaign for the Lib Dem County Council to get a grip of its road maintenance contract and make sure pothole repairs are co-ordinated, and that they last.
There’s Government funding to invest in bus services and we’ll be speaking up for more frequent buses with better routes, more bus stops and proper shelters with lighting. This requires the Council to put strong pressure onto the Conservative led Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority.
Measures to help with the cost of living such as more council tax relief for the least well-off, homes that are cheaper to keep warm, and fighting the Lib Dem scrapping of Free School Meals in the holidays. We also want to see more effort from the Council on income maximisation, and signing up to pay the Real Living Wage encouraging local employers to do the same.
On May 7, there’s a real risk that we’ll end up with a one-party state with the Lib Dems winning all the seats. Last time they took 82% of the seats with just 48% of the vote. This big disparity means South Cambs Council is rated ### by supervote.org.uk where ‘X marks the rot’.

A one-party state would mean no debate and no incentive to work hard. Opposition is essential for a healthy democracy!

More Labour councillors means more progressive votes in the Council chamber. As we have seen elsewhere in Cambridgeshire, progressive parties can and do form alliances to run councils — keeping the Conservatives and Reform out. Voting Labour will not let them in!

Voting Labour will put different voices in the room, fresh ideas and a strong debate about how best to serve residents throughout South Cambridgeshire District.

Here’s our full list of candidates so you can see who is standing in your area. Your local ward will be on your polling card sent by the Council.

Almost 62,000 homes and businesses have been better protected from flooding over the last two years as the Environment Agency today (Wednesday 15 April) confirmed it has exceeded its two-year property protection target by nearly 10,000.

61,898 homes and businesses better protected, including nearly 9,000 homes in the East of England, nearly 10,000 more than planned
• New flood defences already operational, protecting homes through wet months and set to help prevent an estimated £10 billion in damage
• £1.4 billion committed for coming year, funding 600 projects
• Labour has pumped £2.65 billion into flood defences since 2024, repairing and replacing existing defences and constructing new ones. With over 250 projects now completed, stronger protection has been delivered for over 60,000 properties across
England – well above the original goal of 52,000.
• These new and improved defences have come online throughout the last two years and will help to prevent an estimated £10 billion in economic damage as they provide
communities with better protection and defend valuable farmland from being regularly flooded.

Great to be out this morning in Fen Ditton with Councillor Bryony Goodliffe, Tim Andrews, Angela Platt and Chris Bailey, talking to residents about issues of concern. These included speeding, potholes and antisocial behaviour.

We promised that if Tim, Angela and Chris are elected, we will hold regular surgeries in the villages of the Fen Ditton & Fulbourn ward, as well as canvassing all year round to capture the community’s concerns. We would bring these to the district council to ensure that we fight for what matters to you.

Nominations for the Fen Ditton & Fulbourn ward in the forthcoming South Cambs District Council elections have closed. Labour's candidates are three experienced community campaigners, Tim Andrews, Angela Platt and Chris Bailey.

Tim, Angela and Chris work all year round. In the past year they have talked to over 1300 residents in our ward and have delivered on the issues that matter to you. As district councillors, they could do so much more for our community.

This ward has had Labour councillors before and came close to returning a Labour district councillor in 2022.

Vote for a different, positive voice for our villages. Vote Labour.
