Health and safety repairs needed to climbing frame at Green Play Area
https://hisimp-pc.gov.uk/health-and-safety-repairs-needed-to-climbing-frame-at-green-play-area/

Following an inspection this morning of the wooden climbing frame at the Green Play Area, it has been noted that the wooden beams have suffered from the recent hot weather conditions and have split and cracked. The unit has been taped off awaiting repairs to the beams.

Based on previous orders for the wooden beams, they may take some time to come into stock for contractors to replace, so the unit may be out of action for some time.

Equipment removal at South Road Play area
https://hisimp-pc.gov.uk/equipment-removal-at-south-road-play-area/

During a regular inspection of play equipment at South Road, the climbing frame has been deemed to be unsafe and has been fenced off. The wooden beams have splits and cracks in them and the rungs of part of the climbing unit have broken off. The recent hot weather has made the wood dry out and therefore become unstable.

The unit was fenced off but the fencing has been removed and people have tried to access the unit so it will now be removed for health and safety reasons. We are working with contractors to investigate replacement of the unit as soon as possible.

South Road Play Area public meeting to discuss improvements

Having received some suggestions from local residents about possible improvements at the South Road Play Area, the Parish Council are looking at possible improvements to the site and would like to hear residents’ opinions on possible changes. The intention is not to alter the space and the way it is currently used but to give it a face lift.

Options being considered include replacement of play equipment, perhaps the addition of new play equipment, repairs/replacement to the goalposts, hedging maintenance, and the addition of wildlife friendly planting beds.

The Parish Council would like to hear from residents on the proposed plans, and would like to invite residents to attend an onsite meeting to discuss ideas on 19th May 2026 at 5:30pm, at the South Road Play Area. If you have any ideas or suggestions you would like to make in advance, please email [email protected].

More developed plans will be created once we have resident’s feedback.

Histon & Impington Parish Council is uncontested in the 2026 elections.

South Cambridgeshire District Council has confirmed that the number of valid nominations received for our parish is equal to (or fewer than) the number of available seats. When this happens, the election is classed as uncontested.

What this means
All candidates who were validly nominated are automatically elected.

There will be no parish council ballot on polling day for Histon & Impington.

The new council will take office from 7 May.

If any seats remain unfilled, these can later be filled through co‑option, where the council invites applications from residents.

A note of thanks
Histon & Impington Parish Council would like to thank all those who put themselves forward to serve as Parish Councillors. Our parish relies on volunteers who step up as public officers and give their time, judgement and care to support local life. We look forward to working with the new council from 7 May as we continue serving the community together.
