Cambridge Solfed

Cambridge Solfed Cambridge Local of the Solidarity Federation, the UK section of the International Workers Association (IWA). To build grass roots movements from the bottom up.

The Solidarity Federation is a revolutionary union initiative, which seeks the the abolition of capitalism and the state, and instead create a society based on:-
* Worker's self management
* Solidarity
* Mutual Aid
* Libertarian Communism
To this end we encourage self-organisation and direct action in the workplace and the community. People to combine and take control of their own lives, by the use of direct action, and controlled by direct democracy.

Happy International Workers Day!

01/05/2024

“May Day is about affirmation, the love of life, and the start of spring, so it has to be about the beginning of the end of the capitalist system of exploitation, oppression, war, and overall misery, toil, and moil.” So writes celebrated historian Peter Linebaugh in an essential compendium of re...

Humanities under attack in HE.

The assault against Higher Education provision in the UK continues apace. In particular, those subjects that are deemed too expensive or that don't force graduates down the narrow road of making money for money's sake - these are the ones suffering an onslaught as departments and units are downsized or closed.

The humanities, modern languages and the arts in general, continue to face obliteration. Oxford Brookes, Aberdeen, Lincoln are just some of the universities where these subjects are being eliminated or significantly reduced. Staff are being laid off. Students' futures are being mortgaged off. Horizons are being obscured as universities plead financial penury.

But the loss for our population will be greater: fewer opportunities to study what inspires us and everything reduced to its monetary value. The established unions, while making some noises and campaigning locally, appear more interested in their own leadership elections. The Solidarity Federation Education Union is non-hierarchical, which means it is led by its members. 100% of our collective energy is directed at protecting the future of higher education and your job. In contrast, with the re-election of the UCU general secretary, not much will change in terms of strategy, foresight and action.

Members of the CNT-AIT France and the Anarchist Federation organized an informational picket in front of the GAUTIER factory in Chantonnay in France in solidarity with the comrades from CNT-AIT Spain who are in struggle with the firm FOLDECO. FOLDECO is a contractor of IKEA. Some of the problems in FOLDECO include: * 12 hour days without overtime pay; *handling of toxic substances without adequate personal protective equipment, * denial of holiday days, * preventing staff from going to see their doctor,
* the manipulation of working times and shifts in order to hide excess working hours in breach of contract, * and all this is under constant threats of dismissal or pay cuts..

When the comrade of CNT-AIT Spain complained about these abuses, he was threatened and even suffered physical aggression. He also endured racist and xenophobic abuse.

The CNT-AIT France also plans to picket some IKEA stores in upcoming weeks.
