๐จ CAN CANTERBURY REALLY LOSE ITS CITY STATUS?
Canterbury has been a city for centuries. It is a place with a unique history, heritage and identity and now that identity could be put at risk by Labourโs sweeping local government reorganisation.
The Telegraph is reporting that Canterbury and Wi******er could face losing their historic city status as councils are reorganised and existing arrangements for charter trustees are potentially disrupted.
This should concern everyone in Canterbury.
Local government reform should be about delivering better services, better value for money and stronger local accountability, not putting our historic civic identity at risk.
Canterbury isn't simply a line on a council reorganisation map.
It is a City.
It has a proud history.
It has a unique identity.
And that should be protected.
Canterbury deserves better than being treated as an administrative afterthought.
