Rounds Complete! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 🇬🇧 🇺🇸

Northern Strike saw 3rd Battalion, The Royal Welsh, deploy to Michigan, USA, for an annual camp led by the National Guard, alongside other reserve units from across the UK.

Working alongside American forces, the Battalion conducted tactical manoeuvres from section to company level, covering everything from rural to urban combat. This included rapid insertion using CH-47 Chinooks and UH-60 Black Hawks.

Away from the field, members of the Battalion gained hands-on experience with the various land and aerial drones employed by the US military, as well as spending time with American combat engineers learning explosive breaching techniques.

Northern Strike 2026 🇺🇸

Members of the battalion are currently deployed on Exercise Northern Strike — a major US-led training event held annually in Michigan.

The exercise brings together Reserve and partner forces to test warfighting capability, strengthen interoperability, and operate in a demanding, joint environment.

Today we remember the men of the 23rd Regiment of Foot (Royal Welch Fusiliers), whose steadfast courage at the Battle of Minden on 1 August 1759 helped secure one of the British Army’s most celebrated victories. Their legacy of discipline, bravery and sacrifice lives on today through the Royal Welsh, who proudly carry forward the traditions and battle honours of their predecessor regiment.

Minden Day remains a powerful reminder that today’s soldiers stand on the shoulders of those who served before them.
