Yesterday was my first time on Eleri Sion’s BBC Radio Wales show 08.06.18! I spoke to the amazing Caryl Parry Jones (what a lovely lady) about Huda’s Sudanese meatballs, the story of our project and shared the recipe! It was a big hit at the studio! Listen to the show here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0b5hp5v

You can try these meatballs at Oasis Cardiff food trailer Festival of Voice - Gŵyl y Llais hub outside the Wales Millennium Centre this weekend. And you can give this recipe a go by visiting www.liaskitchen.com

🙏

It feels like a while since we have been in touch, thank you for your patience. We would like to reassure you that cogs are indeed turning behind the scene. The preparation work is taking a little longer than we had hoped, but progress is certainly being made as we move closer towards our goal of welcoming a refugee family right here in Cardiff.

Finding suitable housing for our family in the Ely Bridge area has continued to be a big challenge. We have sadly not been able to proceed with the generous offer from our benefactor due to restrictions on the timing of when their investments are available to be used.

However, we have also been looking at rental properties and have identified a small number of suitable properties, but unfortunately private landlords have been not prepared to rent to a group or to private individuals that are in receipt of LHA. To help overcome this hurdle, members of the housing team are attending a landlords forum later this month with the aim of identifying a landlord who will be prepared to rent a property within the community sponsorship framework and at a rent which is as close to LHA benefit as possible.

Citizens UK has cautioned against starting to rent a property too soon as the Local Authority have been taking up to 6 months to approve community sponsorship applications. Other community sponsorship groups that have obtained a rental property quickly, have had to use their funds to pay rent for several months on an empty property, while awaiting Local Authority approval. So learning from this lesson, Citizens UK have recommended that we submit our application to the Home Office and Local Authority without having secured a property and then, in parallel, focus on finding a landlord who will rent us a property.

In the meanwhile our community sponsorship application is now with Citizens UK for final review before submission to the Home Office and Cardiff Council. We look forward to being in touch soon to confirm submission.

Thank you for your continued support,

1FamilyCardiff Project Team

A beautiful prayer using the Nicene Creed. Why not try using it in your church to raise awareness of the 1FamilyCardiff project

Here's a beautiful prayer we used this week at Fuller Seminary as we stood with our immigrant brothers and sisters. Please use it and share it!

The Immigrant Apostles’ Creed

By Rev. Jose Luis Casal

I believe in Almighty God, who guided the people in exile and in exodus, the God of Joseph in Egypt and Daniel in Babylon, the God of foreigners and immigrants.

I believe in Jesus Christ, a displaced Galilean, who was born away from his people and his home, who fled his country with his parents when his life was in danger. When he returned to his own country he suffered under the oppression of Pontius Pilate, the servant of a foreign power. Jesus was persecuted, beaten, tortured, and unjustly condemned to death. But on the third day Jesus rose from the dead, not as a scorned foreigner but to offer us citizenship in God’s kingdom.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the eternal immigrant from God’s kingdom among us, who speaks all languages, lives in all countries, and reunites all races.

I believe that the Church is the secure home for foreigners and for all believers. I believe that the communion of saints begins when we embrace all God’s people in all their diversity.

I believe in forgiveness, which makes us all equal before God, and in reconciliation, which heals our brokenness. I believe that in the Resurrection God will unite us as one people in which all are distinct and all are alike at the same time. I believe in life eternal, in which no one will be foreigner but all will be citizens of the kingdom where God reigns forever and ever.

Amen.
