This is Catherine and Eric Wooldridge, an activist couple who have more than 110 years of service to the SNP between them

Their decades of activism have involved everything from leafleting and knocking doors to jumble sales, coffee mornings and Catherine’s “stovie toasties which sold like hotcakes”

At the party's conference in Aberdeen, the couple were surprised with a special award recognising their extraordinary contribution 👇

Eric said: "We've electioneered from Shetland to Stranraer, Hillhead to Torry, Inverness to Inverkeithing, and Hamilton. Oh, definitely Hamilton.

"We've met and worked alongside many wonderful people who have enriched our lives and shaped us as people, all co-travellers on the journey towards independence.

"Always on the shoulders of giants we stand."

Catherine concluded: "We are a nation."

The SNP wants to abolish the Scotland Office and redirect more than £13 million towards helping Scottish households with their energy bills.

Delegates at the party's conference in Aberdeen have backed the proposal, with MSP George Adam declaring that Scottish Secretary Douglas Alexander's P45 is in the post.

The party argues that the department is an unnecessary expense and that the money could be better spent supporting families facing rising household costs.

However, the vote does not actually abolish the Scotland Office, and not all its budget would necessarily become available as savings.

The decision adds another constitutional argument to an already busy political week in Aberdeen.

On this day 170 years ago: Sir Hugh Munro was born. He gave his name to one of Scotland’s most famous outdoor pursuits – Munro Bagging. Born in London and raised on his family’s country estate near Kirriemuir, the mountaineer published his famous list cataloguing all Scottish peaks over 3,000 feet in 1891 (which currently stands at 282 in total).
