We were very proud to win Volunteer Team of the Year last night at Lancashire Constabulary's Citizens in Policing Volunteers Awards Evening.

It was great to hear about all the amazing work done by all of the wonderful volunteers for Lancashire Police and for it to be rightly celebrated.

Our team is friendly, dedicated, helpful and we couldn't run the museum without them. Thank you so much!

Lancashire Police Museum is a special place. You can find us in a former prison at Lancaster Castle. We have a fantastic and free education service for all looking at different themes relating to law and order, changes to prison over time, roles in policing and Lancashire's incredible local history. We also have activity books and fun quizzes for all abilities to help focus visits.

We're celebrating a special milestone. We're celebrating our fourth anniversary and 100,000th visitor!

Lancashire Police Museum, housed within a former prison wing at Lancaster Castle, was launched in May 2022 and has since gone from strength to strength.
It has been shortlisted for a number of prestigious local visitor awards, hosted Royal visitors and recently welcomed its 100,000th visitor.

Free to enter, the Museum is open on Thursdays and Fridays, with some extra days during school holidays. It is staffed by volunteers.
We’re delighted to be celebrating our fourth anniversary and we’ve absolutely loved welcoming so many visitors through our doors. Looking forward to welcoming many more. 😀 👮‍♂️

Lancashire Constabulary pioneered the use of brightly coloured cars on the roads in the 1950s. Today, the same principle is still in use with police cars in the UK immediately recognisable by their blue and yellow reflective markings. The brightly coloured cars were immediately obvious to road users who then paid, hopefully, more attention to driving carefully.

This photo was taken at a police open day in 1959 and shows the Lancashire Police MG patrol vehicles. The symmetry is impressive!

We are open from 11.30 to 12.30 and 1.30 to 4pm on Thursday 30 April. We are opening an hour later than usual due to essential works taking place at Lancaster Castle.

Free admission to this special museum, in A wing of Lancaster Castle, looking at the fascinating past and present of Lancashire Constabulary.
