🔥 Scottish Island Peaks Race is ON 🔥

The Intelligence Corps Sailing Association and Ultra Marathon runners have joined forces, from Friday 15 May 1200 hrs to Monday 18 May 1800 hrs, our team took on one of the toughest endurance events out there, the Scottish Islands Peaks.

They battled it out across the Western Isles, racing against the clock to conquer the highest peaks on the Isles of Mull, Jura, and Arran 🏔️

This isn’t just a run or sailing — it’s a relentless test of endurance, teamwork, and grit, combining ultra-distance racing with sea crossings between islands.

Wind, waves, mountains… we’re taking it all on.
💪

Stay tuned as we push limits, chase summits, and see what we’re made of.

IDAHOBIT 2026 🌟

IDAHOBIT’s 2026 theme is ‘At the heart of democracy’. For a Corps that uses unique individual skill sets to help defend democratic values at home and abroad, we celebrate and recognise those who get to undertake this task as themselves. In the last 25 years a huge amount of progress has been made.

On 12th January 2000 the ban was lifted, 2008 saw the first time all three services marched at Pride in uniform, 2021 saw the return of medals policy, December 2024 saw the launch of the financial recognition scheme, and in October last year, HM The King unveiled the Armed Forces LGBT memorial.

Real progress has been hard fought for and hard won by those who refuse to apologise for who they are. But progress has no finish line. Together we must stand up to defend democratic, free values, to allow people to be who they are.

The Intelligence Corps’ LGBT Network stepped into 2026 with a brand new charter. Our mission is to support our people, strengthen connections across the Corps for both serving personnel and veterans, and ensure everyone feels valued, supported, and able to thrive.

Everyone deserves to serve as their authentic self. Everyone deserves to belong.

Congraulations to Major General Matt Jones OBE on his appointment as Colonel Commandant Intelligence Corps, effective 8 May 2026. His appointment is in succession to General Sir Jim Hockenhull KBE ADC Gen.

Major General Jones commented on his appointment: “It will be the greatest privilege of my career to become the Intelligence Corps’ Colonel Commandant. I have been a member of the Corps for 27 years and am immensely proud of all we have achieved during that time and before. I owe General Hockenhull a huge debt of gratitude. His leadership of the Corps for more than a decade has allowed us to thrive in uncertain times. I am ready for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, and look forward to working with every element of the Corps to ensure we have an operationally successful and flourishing future in the years to come.”

Recognising decades of dedicated service to the Intelligence Corps.

On 7 May 2026, the Intelligence Corps held a bespoke all-ranks and veterans dinner night to mark the Dine Out of our Colonel Commandant, General Sir Jim Hockenhull KBE ADC Gen, retiring after 40 years of service. The dinner also paid tribute to Major General Sarah Johansen CB MBE, retiring after 30 years of service.

An event made all the more significant by the presence of our Colonel-in-Chief, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal.

Hosted at the Worshipful Company of Painter-Stainers in London, the evening also saw the unveiling of a newly commissioned ceremonial portrait of Her Royal Highness, painted by leading British portrait artist Louise Pragnell. The portrait celebrates Her Royal Highness’s role as Colonel-in-Chief since her appointment in 2022.

On public display during at the Worshipful Company of Painter-Stainers’ Livery Hall from Thursday 14th May to Saturday 16th May 2026.

LCpl Oliver Thomas

Oliver was born in 1987 and grew up in Kington. He studied War, Peace and International Relations at Reading University, graduating in 2009. Oliver joined the Territorial Army (Reserves) in 2011.

Whilst Oliver was a member of 3 MI Battalion, his day job was working as a researcher for Liberal Democrat MP Roger Williams. In 2013, he took a leave of absence to volunteer for a tour of Afghanistan, deploying in December 2013.

Oliver was killed in action on 26th April 2014 aged 26, when the helicopter he was travelling in crashed in Takhta Pal district whilst on a training flight. He was one of five killed in the incident.

Today, the Intelligence Corps take time to remember Oliver and his colleagues.
