General information

Please note the new opening hours from 3rd October 2011. Cheam Library was first opened in May 1962. The library has also recently adopted a modern self-service system, which was introduced in 2008. The library is fully accessible with automatic doors and a ramp. There is also a meeting room available for hire on the first floor, which is also accessible via stair lift. All library services are available on the ground floor, which include computer and Internet access, WiFi access, books, DVDs, CDs, and talking books for loan. Freedom Passes for London Borough of Sutton residents are also applied for at the library as well as garden waste sacks. The library also acts as a venue for a number of regular activities, including Storytimes for children, Bridge Club and a Scrabble Club. In addition, there are a number of events for the public which are run by external bodies from our meeting room on the first floor, including Yoga, drama workshops for children, baby massage and baby signing. During spring 2010 an extension was added to the rear of the Library which houses a new Sure Start Children's Centre and the upstairs meeting room was refurbished. The Children's Centre provides lot's of free activities and support for under 5's and thier carers. Please check the Boxes tab and look at our Notes for regular activities held at Cheam Library, and keep track of any events we are running by checking the Events tab.
