What is the Home from Home Scheme?
The Home from Home scheme provides regular, planned short stays for children and young people with additional needs. These stays take place in the homes of approved foster carers, giving families a much-needed break while ensuring their child receives high quality care in a warm, family-based setting. It’s more than just a break, it’s a chance for children to build new relationships, enjoy new experiences, and gain independence in a safe and supportive environment.

I can't foster because I don't have a big support network. Yes, you can!

You don't need to have a huge circle of family and friends around you to consider fostering.

Having people you can turn to can be valuable, but your support system doesn't have to start out large. As a foster carer, you become part of a wider fostering community and will have support from our fostering team throughout your journey.

If you're worried that your support network might hold you back from fostering, talk to us. We can explore your individual circumstances with you rather than you ruling yourself out.

Having a place to call home matters!
Residential care can provide safety and support when children need it most, but nothing can replace the warmth of family life. Foster carers offer something deeply personal: a place where a child can build trusting relationships, enjoy everyday family experiences, and know that they matter as an individual. A foster home is so much more than a roof over a child's head. It is where routines become reassuring, where achievements are celebrated and where children learn what it feels like to be accepted and loved. With the guidance of caring adults who are consistently present in their lives, children can develop confidence, resilience, and a stronger sense of who they are. These foundations help them flourish emotionally, socially, and academically, giving them the best chance of a positive future.

You’ve probably heard of Fostering, but do you know what Private Fostering is?
Well, if your child is being cared for by someone other than a parent or close relative for more than 28 days, then they are being Privately Fostered and we need to know.

I can't foster because I don't have the right skills. Yes, you can!

You don’t need to arrive knowing everything about fostering. Foster carers come from all walks of life and bring different life experiences, qualities and skills with them.

What matters is your willingness to learn, develop and provide a safe, nurturing home for a child or young person. We will support you through your journey, with training to help you build the knowledge, skills and confidence you need to foster.

You may already have more transferable skills than you realise.
