🚨 Incident 🚨

This afternoon, Chesham crew and our Rural Firefighting Vehicle (RFV) were mobilised to a large field fire at Horton Wharf Farm, Ivinghoe.

We supported crews from Dunstable Fire Station and Leighton Buzzard fire Station from Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, as firefighters worked together to bring the fire under control.

The RFV proved invaluable dampening down of areas across the difficult terrain.

With the continued dry conditions, fires like this can spread incredibly quickly through crops and vegetation. Please take extra care when out and about and help us prevent further fires.

**Shout** 📟 🔥 🚒

This evening, Chesham crew and our RFV were mobilised to assist our colleagues from BFRS Amersham Fire Station following a fire believed to have been started by a discarded cigarette.

Crews worked through dense vegetation to locate and extinguish the fire before it could spread further.

With the current hot and extremely dry conditions, something as small as a discarded cigarette can quickly develop into a serious fire, putting surrounding woodland, fields, wildlife and nearby properties at risk.

Please dispose of ci******es safely and never throw them from vehicles or onto dry ground.

A few seconds of care can prevent a much bigger incident. 🔥 🌾🚒

Today, members of Chesham Fire Station had the honour of attending the funeral of our former Sub Officer, Phil Mason, to pay our respects and celebrate a life dedicated to the Fire & Rescue Service.

The Chesham crew were joined by colleagues from Blue Watch BFRS Aylesbury Fire Station and Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service’s Ceremonial Team.

It was especially meaningful to have Watch Commander Nettleton with us who formed part of the ceremonial team, who began his fire service career at Chesham Fire Station.

It was a moving and fitting service that reflected Phil’s commitment, professionalism and the lasting impact he had on those who served alongside him. His dedication to the fire service will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.

On behalf of everyone at Chesham Fire Station, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to Phil’s family for allowing us to be part of such a special and personal farewell. It was a privilege to stand alongside you in celebrating Phil’s life and service.

Rest easy, Phil. Your watch is complete. ❤️🚒

🚒 Incident | Mop End Farm 🚒

Today at 18:00, on this occasion our Fire Appliance was mobilised back to Mop End Farm to relieve the crew already in attendance at the ongoing fire at Mop End Farm!

With hotspots still present within the large waste pile, our crew continue working to monitor conditions and tackle areas of fire to ensure it remained under control. Incidents like these can take many hours and days, and crew relief is an important part of maintaining safe and effective operations.

A great team effort by everyone involved throughout the incident.

Late this evening at 22:20, our crew and the Rural Firefighting Vehicle (RFV) were mobilised to a field fire at Mop End Lane, where approximately half a football pitch of vegetation was already well alight.

At 02:21 this morning, Chesham’s Rural Firefighting Vehicle was mobilised to a fire in the open on White Hill, Chesham.

Our RFV was requested due to its compact size and off-road capability, the RFV was able to reach the incident quickly, allowing crews to tackle the fire and prevent it from spreading further across the field.

The incident highlights the vital role our Rural Firefighting Vehicle plays in responding to fires in remote and difficult-to-access locations, particularly during the current dry conditions.

**SHOUT** 📟 🔥🚒

This evening, Chesham Fire Station’s main fire engine and Rural Firefighting Vehicle were both mobilised to a fire in the open near St Leonards.

On arrival, crews quickly got to work tackling the fire and made good progress to bring it under control, preventing it from spreading any further.

Once the main fire had been extinguished, the local farmer assisted crews by using a telehandler to turn over the smouldering pile, allowing our crews to expose hidden hotspots and fully extinguish the fire. Thank you to the farmer for their assistance and support.

With the current warm, dry conditions, fires in the open can spread rapidly. Please take extra care when enjoying the countryside and report any signs of fire immediately.

🇬🇧🇩🇪 Strengthening International Friendships 🚒

This weekend, we had the privilege of welcoming our volunteer firefighter friends from our twinned town of Freiwillige Feuerwehr Friedrichsdorf, Germany, to Chesham for a memorable return visit following our trip to Germany last year.

The visit began with a warm civic welcome from Chesham Town Council , where our guests met CEO Louise Hayday, The Mayor, Councillor Parveiz Aslam Mbe, Deputy Mayor Frances Kneller, and our fantastic Chesham Town Twinning representatives, Isabelle and Roderick. Their hospitality was exceptional as they guided us on a tour of our wonderful town, including Lowndes Park and the Chesham Museum, sharing the rich history and heritage of our community.

Our Town Mayor, Councillor Parveiz, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome our friends from Friedrichsdorf to Chesham. Visits like these strengthen friendships and highlight the importance of working together across communities.”

Chesham Town Council CEO, Louise, said: “We were delighted to welcome our visitors to Chesham. The weekend showcased the very best of our town, our volunteers and our strong community spirit.”

A huge thank you also goes to Will and everyone Generals Arms Chesham as well as The Boot And Slipper for making us feel so welcome and for the excellent hospitality shown during our evenings together.

They then experienced their very first taste of traditional English ale during a tour of a local brewery!

The highlight of the weekend came on Sunday at Chesham Fire Station, where Amersham crew delivered an excellent operational demonstration, showcasing UK firefighting techniques, including a ladder drill and pumping procedures. It provided a fantastic opportunity to compare how we operate in the UK and Bucks with our colleagues in Germany.

Throughout the demonstrations, discussions and practical sessions, everyone learned something new, exchanged ideas and shared experiences that will undoubtedly benefit both services.

The visit concluded with a presentation of gifts, a BBQ and plenty of laughter before saying our goodbyes.

These exchanges are about so much more than firefighting. They build lasting friendships, strengthen international partnerships and remind us that, despite operating in different countries, we all share the same commitment to serving our communities.

A sincere thank you to everyone who helped make the weekend such a success, especially Chesham Town Council, The Twinning Association, Amersham Fire Station, The General Arms, The Boot & Slipper, Waitrose & Partners Chesham and everyone who supported in the background, and all the members of Chesham Fire Station who gave up their time to make our friends feel so welcome.
