On Friday, the Mayor welcomed Stefan Kolberg and Clive Lutley, amongst others, from Friedberg, who are visiting Chippenham as part of our town twinning programme.

This beautiful bench has been gifted to Chippenham, and is now situated in Monkton Park, marks 35 years of friendship between Chippenham and Friedberg.

Designed by Clive Lutley, the bench incorporates the skyline of Friedberg, providing a lasting reminder of the strong connection between our towns.

Chippenham is twinned with Friedberg in Germany and La Flèche in France. To find out more about our town twinning partnerships, visit Chippenham Twinning Association or bit.ly/_twinning

August has got off to a good start with events to attend. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor both attended the launch of the Queens East Community Garden, which the Town Council has previously supported the project with a grant. They both enjoyed taking part in the planting and meeting local organizer, Laura White.
The Mayor was invited by the Mayor of Amesbury to their Civic Service at Stonehenge alongside other dignitaries from across the county including the High Sheriff. It was an absolute privilege to be close to the stones. There was a short ceremony in the inner sanctum circle with a hazel staff speeches, led by a local druid.

Welcome to the Mayor of Chippenham's page

Since becoming Mayor of Chippenham in May, Councillor Matthew Bragg has had the privilege of representing the town at a wide range of community and civic events, meeting residents, volunteers, organisations and fellow civic leaders along the way.
Some of the highlights so far have included attending Mayor Making ceremonies in Royal Wootton Bassett, Malmesbury, Marlborough and Bath, where he was pleased to meet and welcome fellow newly appointed Mayors.

The Chippenham Folk Festival was a fantastic celebration of Chippenham's community spirit and culture. Watching the colourful parade make its way through the High Street from the Town Hall steps was a particular highlight, and the Mayor was delighted to attend many of the events and performances throughout the weekend.

It has also been an honour for Councillor Bragg to lead the town on important ceremonial occasions.
At Pride in Chippenham, he welcomed members of the organising committee to the Town Hall before joining the march through the High Street.

On Armed Forces Day, he was proud to welcome soldiers from 9 Regiment RLC
alongside veterans from the Royal British Legion and Chippenham Armed Forces & Veterans Breakfast Club, as the community came together to recognise and celebrate their service.

Community Civic Sunday is an annual event that acknowledges the work and contribution made by the many local organisations, groups, and individuals who work selflessly to enhance the quality of town life in Chippenham. The Mayor presented the awards to the brilliant Civic Award winners.

He also enjoyed taking part in Eco Future Fest, even stepping out to model a selection of sustainable hats!
Most recently, the Mayor attended the Battle of Chippenham re-enactment event in Monkton Park with The English Civil War Society. Organised by Chippenham Town Council, this very popular event enabled visitors to step into the 17th century with a military campsite and market full of activity. The Mayor met soldiers, watched historic crafts and discovered more about life during the English Civil War.

Councillor Bragg would like to thank everyone who has made him feel so welcome during his first few months as Mayor. He looks forward to sharing more of Chippenham's events and achievements over the coming year.
