MESSAGE FROM CADENT:

1950s gas pipes to be replaced in Lawford, Manningtree

Gas pipes that were first installed in Lawford, Manningtree around 70 years ago are to be upgraded to new, durable plastic pipes which will future-proof the network for decades to come.

Cadent is set to replace 1,600 metres of ageing gas pipe in Lawford, Manningtree, helping to keep local homes and businesses connected to safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating.

The works will take place in Long Road, Colchester Road, Milton Road, Garden City, Bromley Road, Grange Road, Claude Oliver and Wignall Street. Cox’s Hill will also be affected by the work.

The project is part of Cadent’s ongoing investment to upgrade older gas mains across the East of England, replacing ageing pipes with modern plastic ones that are more durable and ready for the future.

Following consultation with Essex County Council, Cadent has agreed to carry out these essential gas works starting on Monday 27 July with an expectation that they will take 14 weeks to complete.

Due to the location of the gas pipes, engineers will need to work in the road, and a number of traffic management arrangements will be in place to keep everyone safe. These will include rolling road closures at various stages of the scheme. Additional traffic management includes:

Long Road will be closed with a rolling road closure from the 27 August until 14 Sep . Diversion routes will be clearly sign posted.
The entrance into Colchester Road from Long Road will be closed 17 August until 4 Sep. Diversion routes will be clearly sign posted. Access will be maintained for residents.
The entrance into Milton Road will be closed 10 August until 31 August. Access will be maintained for residents.
The entrance into Bromley Road from Wignall Street will be closed from the 14 September until 13 October. A signposted diversion will be available via School Lane.
The entrance into School Lane from Wignall Street will be closed from the 5 October until 23 October.

The road closure on Bromley Road and School Lane will not clash, School lane will only close once Bromley Road is open again.

Two-way traffic lights will also be used in Grange Road, while multi-way traffic lights will be in place in Wignall Street and Colchester Road. Signed diversion routes and advance warning signs will be used where required.

Gas supplies remain ON for the duration of work. The only interruption to supply will be to properties that take a direct feed from the pipes being replaced (in the immediate local area). Supply to these properties will be disconnected for a short while the property is connected to the new pipe. Advance notice will be given, and more information will be provided to these properties.

If you have any questions please contact Cadent on 0800 151 2404 or email [email protected]. Their team are available Monday to Friday 8.00am to 8.00pm.

LET'S TALK ABOUT CHRISTMAS!
Yes we know it's hotter than Hades at the minute, however an intrepid work party from the Manningtree market/Manningtree District Business Chamber have launched on Instagram ~(hopefully also coming to Facebook soon)
The chamber want to deck the town in Christmas trees and lights as they are aware the High Street has looked a little bare over the past couple of years.
Can you help ?
You can sponsor a bauble, a tree or make a donation.

GAS WORKS ON LONG ROAD, LAWFORD
I hope this email finds you well. My name is Lydia, and I am emailing of behalf of Cadent – we own and operate the gas network across half of the UK, including area. I have previously emailed you about work we are doing on Clayton Road and it was wonderful to meet some of you this morning. As some of you are aware we are returning in a few weeks to complete another project on Long Road Lawford.
We’re investing in upgrading our gas network in your area, replacing ageing metal pipes with more durable plastic pipes. This will increase the resilience of our network and make reactive repairs and disruption less likely in the future.
As part of this programme, we will be replacing parts of our network in and around Long Road, Lawford, from the 27th July. This project will last approximately 14 weeks.
To minimise disruption to the community, we will be consulting with residents, businesses and stakeholders in the area whilst planning the project in collaboration with Essex highways authority officers. I have included some further key information on the project below:
• Traffic management: To ensure the safety of our team and the public we will be closing Long Road, Wignall Street, Bromley Road and Colchester Road as per operational requirements. Diversion routes will be clearly signposted.
• Buses: we understand this will have an impact on some bus routes; we have been liaising with Essex County Council as a key stakeholder throughout and notification of our works have been given to the bus company.
• Communication with residents, businesses and schools:
Before work starts:
• Advanced Warning Signage (AWS)
• Drop-in session held locally for residents and businesses to attend and ask any questions at 9am and 11am on Wednesday 15 July. Cadent customer teams will have a gazebo set up on the green at the junction of Trinity Road, New Road and Long Road,
• Social media posts on Next Door & Facebook
• Letter notification for customers with gas interruptions
• Customer Care Officer visit to customers with gas interruptions
• SMS & Email notification to customers with gas interruptions
• Engagement with nearby schools.
During works:
• Site signage with varying messages
After works:
• Customer Care Officer visit to customers with gas interruptions
As the local representative, we would like to invite you to the drop in session to talk you through the project in more detail, or if you are unable to attend please do not hesitate to get in touch with me with any questions or feedback and I’d be happy to assist.
