The Equality Party

The Equality Party We aim to unite people from diverse backgrounds to fight for equal rights and opportunities, so that everyone can contribute and thrive. Thank you!

We are a political party in England, Scotland and Wales that puts equality at the top of the political agenda. Other parties make statements about ‘fairness’ and equality. We believe that prioritising equality and dismantling structures that create inequality are the solution to the problems we face, not nice-to-have outcomes. Our policies include

- Universal free childcare, so that families can

thrive
- Affordable housing – built for people, not developers
- Low-cost, reliable and frequent public transport
- Towns and transport that are fully accessible for all
- Taxing wealth
- Valuing paid and unpaid care work
- Ending violence against women and girls and getting justice for victims
- Challenging polarisation and hate. We are trans-inclusive and stand with asylum-seekers and all vulnerable people. We stand for a new type of economy – not designed to put more money in the pockets of the rich at the cost of everyone else and the planet. Our economic policy (‘doughnut’ or ‘circular’ economics) is centred around a system that ensures everyone, and the planet, can thrive. We believe our democracy is broken and demand a proportional voting system in which everyone’s vote counts, and decision-making that includes diverse voices. There is abundant evidence from around the world that this will create a better life for all. Equality really is better for everyone. Like many people, we are alarmed at the recent rise of populism in the UK, the tendancy to blame ‘others’ (such as refugees) for problems caused by government decisions, and the use of flags and so-called ‘patriotism’ as tools of division. Some equality debates are nuanced and affect people deeply. One-line simplistic statements posted to invoke outrage, or 'click-bait' are spam and will be removed from our page. Unlike the big parties, we do not have billionaire backers or large PR teams. We are ordinary people doing an extraordinary thing. If you like the sound of this, please support us. We fundamentally reject the polarisation of politics, and know that British people are essentially decent, fair-minded and believe that everyone deserves a chance to thrive. When elected, we implement real action to make it happen – disability access schemes, community safety, domestic abuse services, action on hate crime including misogyny and homo/transphobia, better public transport, and much more. Our goal is to get representatives elected up and down the country so that we can make real change from the grassroots, and ultimately at a national level. The party already has councillors in England and Scotland. Kay Wesley and Susan Mead are Councillors in Congleton Town Council. Kay was elected in 2019 and Susie in 2023. David Renton is a Community Councillor in Scotland. They are having a huge impact on the lives of people in their areas, removing barriers for many including families, older and younger people, those in deprived areas, people with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ people, and minoritised groups. You can read about their work in their bi-monthly blogs on our website.

The Government wants to ban social media for under-16s.

Social media companies have spent years prioritising engagement and profit over safety, exposing young people to harmful content, exploitation and addictive design. The solution is not to exclude young people from online spaces, but to hold platform owners accountable for making those spaces safer.

We also have concerns about what young people stand to lose. For many disabled young people, LGBTQ+ young people, those living in rural communities, and others who may feel isolated, social media can provide connection, support and access to conversations that shape the world around them.

We fully understand the concerns that have led to calls for a ban, and want to keep children safe online. But meaningful change requires tackling the root of the problem, not simply restricting access. Platform owners must be held to account for safer online environments for all.

Trigger warning: References to su***de and mental health. Support resources are provided in the final slide.

This Men's Mental Health Awareness Week, we're reflecting on the challenges that many men face and the barriers that can make it harder to seek support.

Men account for around three-quarters of su***des in the UK, yet are significantly less likely to access mental health services.

Creating a more equal society means challenging the stereotypes that prevent people from reaching out and getting the support they need.

Today marks nine years since the Grenfell Tower fire.

We remember the 72 people who lost their lives, stand with survivors and bereaved families, and honour the community that has spent nearly a decade fighting for truth, accountability and justice.

Grenfell was not simply a tragedy. It exposed the devastating consequences of inequality, unsafe housing and a system that failed residents who had repeatedly raised concerns.

Yes, there are problems in Britain. Most people are worse off than they were 10 years ago. Young people can’t afford to get their own place. 30-somethings don’t want children due to the lack of affordable childcare and squeeze on all the bills. Millions of families live in poverty. Homelessness is everywhere. Working people are using food banks. Women and children are under attack online and off. Unrest is on our streets, with factions preaching hate and others opposing them.

In the 5th richest country, it doesn’t have to be like this. We will build a new economy which works for you, instead of seeing you as a cog in a machine to make a few men rich. Housing for people not developers, transport that works for all, investment in health and education, jobs, cities and communities that include everyone and are designed so all can succeed. An economy that doesn’t destroy the planet or increase the divide between the rich and the poor.

Other parties channel frustration into fear and division. We transform it into action and change.

Other parties claim the Equality Act and human rights are the problem. They would strip away your rights as a worker, your right to a home, your right to health and wealth, if you don’t happen to fit their mould of the compliant cog in their money machine.

We know the problem is inequality itself and that dismantling barriers to equality is the solution.

Equality Party councillors are already making a real difference — fighting poverty, crime and violence against women, improving mental health provision and disability rights, supporting nature and renewable energy, and driving local progress that lifts everyone.

A Better Future Is Possible — With Equality.

The next major elections are in May 2027. Join us now and help create a movement that will rebuild Britain.

Several members of the team attended the Fawcett Society Conference today. Thanks to Fawcett and all speakers for a great event.

In the discussion of Misogyny in Public life, our leader Kay Wesley pointed out that there is one new political force that is not right-wing and misogynistic, doesn’t subscribe to combat politics and indeed has a majority of women.

The football brings joy to millions, however for many women and children, it can bring fear.

Violence against women and girls is not just confined to match days, however research shows that violence escalates during major football tournaments, with up to a 38% increase in reporting in England.

As major tournaments continue, this is a reminder that support must be available to everyone who needs it.

If you are experiencing abuse, you are not alone. Support is available 24 hours a day through the National Domestic Abuse Helpline on 0808 2000 247. In an emergency, call 999. From a mobile phone, press 55 when prompted if you cannot speak. From a landline, stay silent and your call will be automatically transferred to the police.

One person's actions should never be used to justify hatred against an entire community.

We are appalled by the scenes of violence witnessed in Belfast overnight.

Once again, a single incident is being exploited to fuel division and advance a racist political agenda.
Now innocent migrants are now being targeted by a far-right mob.

We condemn not only those participating in this violence, but also those in positions of power who have helped create the conditions for it through inflammatory rhetoric and the scapegoating of migrants.

Migrants are not to blame for society's problems. Violence exists across all ethnicities, religions, genders and backgrounds.

Our thoughts are with the victim, their loved ones, and those communities that have been affected. Racism and hatred have no place in a democratic society.

Our thoughts are with the family of Henry Nowak during this incredibly difficult time. The police bodycam footage was both heartbreaking and deeply concerning. The family deserves answers regarding the failings that preceded this senseless killing. We hope the ongoing IOPC investigation provides the transparency and accountability the family deserves.

However, we are also deeply concerned that against Henry’s family’s wishes, his death has been politicised by far-right groups and parties. Attempting to score political points from a tragic loss of life is abhorrent and shows little regard for either Henry’s memory or his grieving family.

Many victims of violent crime do not receive the same degree of attention from these groups, raising legitimate concerns that this tragedy is being used selectively to advance a political agenda rather than to seek justice for Henry and his family.

Those responsible for this crime must be held accountable. But further dividing communities, spreading misinformation, and inciting hostility or violence will not deliver justice. Exploiting tragedy for political gain serves only to deepen divisions at a time when compassion, truth, and accountability are needed most.

Finally, we ask that everyone respects the family’s wishes for privacy.

Our thoughts remain with Henry’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
