IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL STUDENTS & FAMILIES:

After careful consideration, we have made the decision to close the school at 12.30pm on Thursday 25th and Friday 26th June due to the extreme heat that we have been experiencing over the past couple of days.

This decision has been made following the monitoring of classroom temperatures. While temperatures have remained manageable during the morning, allowing us to maintain a cool and productive learning environment, we recognise that temperatures have been increasingly difficult to manage after 12pm. We have recorded temperatures of 36+ degrees in some classrooms during our training day today. With the added factor of our students occupying classrooms over the next few days this would result in even higher temperatures.

The safety, wellbeing and comfort of our students and staff is always our priority. By closing at 12:30pm, we can ensure that our students are able to learn effectively during the cooler part of the day while avoiding the hottest conditions later.
Students will be dismissed at the end of period 4 (12.30pm) and will be able to purchase food at breaktime. Any student eligible for free school meals can collect their lunch at breaktime. School buses have been changed to accommodate transport home for students.

Whilst at home, please ensure that your child drinks plenty of fluids throughout the day and, if spending time outdoors, applies sunscreen regularly and takes appropriate precautions to stay safe in the hot weather.

The Year 8 Junior Warrior trip on Thursday 25th June will, unfortunately, not take place as planned. Students affected will receive further details via an email.
Uniform expectations for the next two days are as per our summer uniform policy.

Planned Year 12 exams for Thursday and Friday afternoon will be rescheduled and students will be informed accordingly.

PLEASE NOTE: The transition evening for year 6 parents/students will go ahead as planned, with extra considerations for the hot weather.

FRONT STREET SURGERY COPMANTHORPE SURGERY CLOSURE UPDATE

FSS has just put the below update on its website:

We have been investigating the potential use of clinical rooms at Askham Bar if our application to close the Copmanthorpe branch is successful. This option was raised at our patient engagement meeting in April.
It has taken a while to investigate this due to infrastructure changes within the Integrated Care Board (ICB) who are responsible for our funding and estates.
We have been in discussion with the hospital trust, who currently hold the licence for this site, and they have been very supportive with our enquiry. This site currently houses the Community Diagnostics Centre, which is run by the hospital trust.
After extensive discussions and site visits, the conclusion is that Askham Bar is not logistically or operationally feasible for the use of primary care.
• The rooms are not configured for general practice.
• The IT system is owned by the trust and not by our IT provider.
• There are issues around the phone system in terms of GDPR.
• The site is not CQC registered for Primary Care use, which is the regulatory body for GP practices.
• There is not the required emergency equipment at this site.
• There is very limited stock and consumables on site.
Having thoroughly investigated this as an option, we will not be taking this further. We plan to run all our clinical appointments from the main branch in Acomb, where all our staff, services and systems are under one roof.
If we are successful in funding to reconfigure the main branch, we will look to lease rooms at Acomb Garth, but for non- clinical staff during the works.
Updated FAQs has been posted on our website and displayed in the Copmanthorpe practice.
Once we have received a decision regarding our application to close the site we will of course, contact all patients registered at the Copmanthorpe branch.
Remember - you do not need to do anything, your registration will simply switch to our Acomb branch if you are able to remain a patient of FSS.

VISIT OF C*C CHIEF EXECUTIVE TO COPMANTHORPE YESTERDAY

The new C*C Chief Exec, Richard Webb, (in post for just eight weeks) is visiting all the city's wards and yesterday was the most important one as he came to Copmanthorpe and myself and Parish Council chair Graham Auton took him round the village before other parish councillors joined us. Time was of course limited but Richard is very good and genuinely engaging and it was great to get issues on his radar.

We drove him around much of the village and discussed many things, from the village wide to the very specific, including:
1. The housing developments in Copmanthorpe and issues they are causing (notably the effects on Moor Lane and Tadcaster Road surfaces) as well as how important it is that the village's greenbelt is protected.
2. The general p**t state of the roads (Manor Heath just rubbish, Temple Garth where it is more find the road than the pothole etc)
3. Yorkfield Lane and plans to significantly improve it (with S106 and mayoral funding) but the clock is ticking
4. How can it be so difficult (two years of me asking!) to get the cycle lane on Tadcaster Road repainted so people don't think it is a car parking lane?
5.The problem (now reduced) with the lorries going to Acaster airfield
6. The fact we are keen to further explore a dialogue with residents about possibly more 20mph in the village, but the C*C waiting list for the process is slow
7. The shops, pub and Rec and how much they all add, mentioning so many other great village organisations from the Cubs to the Wombles and events from the Carnival to Santas Grotto

I have put the interesting in quotation marks a bit sarcastically but in truth for many people there will be lots of interesting stuff here. C*C is very good at publishing data about how things are done and people may be familiar with some of these:

https://data.yorkopendata.org/dataset/york-profile - again a useful link from Open Data and one for the data purists! By ward you can see how things have changed over the city (most recent period at the bottom)
